Hi . whilst the 1475 is a great machine, it is getting on in years, and unfortunately, you may be experiencing the early stages of 'computer' / pc board failing. A trip to the technician may be you best option. If it is the pc board, sit down before asking the cost to repair it :)

The needle position of the Pfaff Creative 1473 can only be changed for straight stitches. Use the stitch width + button (the top of the pair of buttons in the middle of the row below the LCD display) to move the needle from left to right. The range of positions depends on your stitch choice. There are 19 positions available for stitch programs 01, 03, and 04. There are 17 positions available for program 05 (triple straight stitch). The stitch programs are indicated on page 2 (page 6 of the PDF) of the manual. The use of the stitch width buttons is on page 30 (page 34 of the PDF). See pages 50-53 for additional information. Take it apart and spray the inside with an electrical switch contact cleaner. The screws are on the underside and may be hidden under the rubber feet..

Does yours have batteries like this one. It does, Page 26 of the manual. The machine is computer operated so there has to be a short warm up period. It shouldn't be turn on and off on its own though. The manual only refers to it as a 'Card 300'. I can find nothing online as to what the card actually is. The tension on your machine sounds like its a little too tight, try to mess with the tension a bit.

machine needs to be serviced. if its been sitting the when you run it sometimes it will tighten up the more you run ir and the smoke is usually oil varnish on the motor. It gets hot trying to turn the machine

Once you open the top cover you can observe by turning the wheel manually where is the actual clutch mechanism location (by switching bobbin winding off and on). Once you see small dark element moving slightly on the inside of the wheel, drop a bit of oil on it and switch back and forth clutch by turning small knob. After few tries clutch started working perfectly.

Everything is fixable, you have a top class machine! When was the last time is was served, cleaned and lubricated? They need doing every 2 years if you use them or not. Every joint and sliding part needs one drop of oil once a year.
