GPS signal is weak or no signal

Bozena/Anton,

Thanks for using FIXYA!

Careful when opening the case because you'll have to unplug the cable from the main board prior to opening the case completely.

The RF cable could be loose inside. Carefully open the unit as to not potentially cause any further damage. The RF cable will be gray or black, it will be the only cable connected from the main (big) board to the RF (attached to the rear housing.. I believe) board. The connectors on either side of the cable have came loose. A "pad" being lifted results in a repair process that's beyond me, this meaning you can see white as opposed to silver. It may help continuity to re-flow the solder, if everything looks fine (heating up the existing solder and adding fresh solder).

Unplug the cable on both ends and plug back in to make sure the connectors on the circuit board aren't coming loose. If soldering is out of your league then I suggest finding someone that can. Let me know what happens, and careful when opening the case because you'll have to unplug the cable from the main board prior to opening the case completely.

RoadMate 700/760 Version 6 update maps are over a year old!!

THE CURE for this problem is NEVER BUY Magellan again!!

After paying over £800 for an early Roadmate 700 (which failed and was replaced by a failed/recon version) then to have problems with software.. now having waited a year to get map update and version 6 firmware I find it doesn't give me Magellan Tools which was promised by Magellan Support.

After several mail queries and important qustions remaining unanswered I am buying a Tomtom Go 720T which will do all the updates automatically via a cradle linked to my PV/Internet.

NEVER EVER AGAIN a damned Magellan - great when it works but it's easier to get blood from a stone than good support from Magellan.

1. Search for the file ENG_F.SND sound on google or yahoo or any search engine.

2. Connect RM 700 to PC, and create folder name SOUND_EU on RM 700.

3. Copy the ENG_F.SND to SOUND_EU folder.

4. Disconnect RM 700 from PC.

5. Turn on RM 700, and go to Option, configuration, language, and choose English.

6. RM 700 will load sound file and turn off.

7. Turn on RM 700, if it keeps showing the initial screen, then connect the RM 700 to PC, and DELETE the ENG_F.SND from SOUND_EU. It should be OK after you disconnect RM 700 from PC and turn it on again.

GOOD LUCK!
NOTES: My screen indeed locked at first as covered in the last step, so expect that to happen. Don't worry if you never get to do step 5 and 6. Connecting the USB deleting the SND file and restarting it works and the sound is back even without the file there.

This only fixes the Female voice along with the beeps and clicks. The unit goes silent again if you select the male voice but switching back to the female makes it work again. I assume "_F" in the file name must mean female.

The display still shows "AFIJDEN...." or something like that instead of the word "Exit" or "Entrance" when exiting or entering the freeway. Voice is fine though. Anyone got a fix for that?

It will not power up. Used car adapter and still will not power. Need name of repair center in Ft. Worth, Tx. Searched yellow pages but did not locate. Help!

Hello prlady, The repair center is with a company in Fort Worth called ATC Logistics & Electronics. So, search for that name and you'll get the proper information needed. By the way, what's the reason your sending your unit in?

My 700 has no GPS

Danny, First I would try resetting GPS. It has been a while since I've worked on the 700's but there is a next to the GPS Status button that shows something along the lines of resetting GPS. It will then tell you that it will take 5 min. to re-aquire a signal. Try that first. If that fails, restart your unit and at the user menu push the "-" (zoom out) key AND the "repeat" button on top. Your in the "secret" menu now. Select Reset GPS user data (maybe it doesn't say that verbatim but work with me here). Press yes to confirm then check your gps status again. Let me know how it works out. -Daniel

Magellan Roadmate 700

I had a Roadmate 700 with the same problem as yours, and the solution was simple: the hard drive inside had come loose!

All I did was open up the unit (4 screws on the back and a small snap-together clip on the end), and plugged the hard drive back into the cable. The cable has 2 black posts that fit into the hard drive, so you can't misalign the pins. On mine, the hard drive label was facing UP.

Once the hard drive was plugged in, I powered up, and could hear the hard drive spin up (which I hadn't heard before). The unit booted from the "Magellan" screen right into the menu almost immediately!

Hope this helps someone!!

Magellan roadmate 700 gps not working

Jossie, The cable that connects your hard drive to your main board could be loose. If it's not loose, then it's your hard drive. The only thing you can do (if it's not the cable) is send it in for a new hard drive. Unsure what the costs will be but the magellan logo screen is produced from memory on the main board while anything after that is when the hard drive takes over. -Daniel

Message: the tempature is to low

hah.. yes that is a strange coincedence. When this error appears, you can try to find someone else's unit and use it for spare parts. If you can find another unit to salvage from, then first change out the LCD w/attached thermometer wires. next to change is the hard drive. which, without having the software DVD can't be completed. I'm sorry Jerome but. there's not too much you can do with this error. -Daniel

Update V6 for Roadmate 760 will not operate in Windows XP

I too wasted money on the V6 (actually V5.37) updates which were already 10 months old when released. I was told it would include Magellan Tools but it does not. I was told I could add cameras but that's not easy.

Phone support will cost you lots unless you have free calls access as thery can take 20mins to answer AND I too have several unanswered website enquiries plus a failure to follow up on a registered case.

The only way to get a new disc is to contact support in France OR if you paid by credit card file a complaint with your CC company and get a refund - that is not difficult to achieve and will wake up Magellan.
