1. Search for the file ENG_F.SND sound on google or yahoo or any search engine.

2. Connect RM 700 to PC, and create folder name SOUND_EU on RM 700.

3. Copy the ENG_F.SND to SOUND_EU folder.

4. Disconnect RM 700 from PC.

5. Turn on RM 700, and go to Option, configuration, language, and choose English.

6. RM 700 will load sound file and turn off.

7. Turn on RM 700, if it keeps showing the initial screen, then connect the RM 700 to PC, and DELETE the ENG_F.SND from SOUND_EU. It should be OK after you disconnect RM 700 from PC and turn it on again.

GOOD LUCK!
NOTES: My screen indeed locked at first as covered in the last step, so expect that to happen. Don't worry if you never get to do step 5 and 6. Connecting the USB, deleting the SND file and restarting it works and the sound is back even without the file there.

This only fixes the Female voice along with the beeps and clicks. The unit goes silent again if you select the male voice but switching back to the female fixed that. I assume "_F" in the file name must mean female.

The display still shows "AFIJDEN...." or something like that instead of the word Exit or Entrance when exiting or entering the freeway. Voice is fine though. Anyone got a fix for that?

MRM 700 won't start; screen flashes white . . . help.

I have a Magellan Roadmate 700 that has stopped working. After a long struggle with it shutting off at every bump in the road (a new cradle solved this problem), I now am facing a new problem with this otherwise great device. Recently the device's screen started flashing white when I push the power button, and continues flashing and unresponsive to all button input. I must disconnect the power to stop the flashing. In addition to the flashing white screen, the 'View' button is lit orange and occasionally there is a single vertical black line on the flashing white screen. I've disassembled the device and verified all ribbon connections are good . . . WHATS NEXT?

stonelinton, It's not your LCD, otherwise you would have heard the sound of buttons being pushed. If your units first screen is white and there is no logo screen or any legible images, then it's your NAND flash on your main board. The first image produced upon boot is the blue magellan screen. This is produced from the NAND flash and will show it no matter if a hard drive is present or not. After the Magellan screen it pulls images from the hard drive. So, it is the mainboard and the only way to fix it is to send it to Magellan repair and they will have to put in a new mainboard then reprogram your serial number, etc.

Hussam.. I believe the newest software upgrade you can get for the 700 is version 4.32 which is the same version used on the 760's. The maps are stored on the hard drive, so I do not think a reset will help but here is how it's done. 1. At the user select menu (first screen to appear after initial turn on) hold down the zoom out key (-) and the repeat button (on top of your unit). 2. Once at the "secret" menu, select reset user data. This will reset all of your personal information from the unit. All of your POI's will be deleted as well as your user name (which you can re-create of course) 3. Your unit will re-boot automatically and that's how you reset your unit. Like I said though, I do not think this will revive your maps. If you have the maps on a DVD-CD then you can reload them that way, otherwise send it to the Fort Worth, Tx repair center and they have the proper program to load data directly to the hard drive. Good luck! -Daniel

Yes, you can reset.

Access the secret " " menu and reset user data, you'd be amazed at how much that can fix. At user menu (after reset) press "-" and repeat key at the same time. select "reset user data". Also, if your having GPS problems, you can also select reset GPS data.

Post again if this doesn't work for you.

How you delete previous destinations and unnecessary addresses from the address book.

Thanks. J.

If this does not work. What worked for me was unplug unit, hold the "-" "+" and repeat buttons down and while holding down press the power button. Hold down until unit powers on. once you release the buttons, the secret menu will pop up.

RoadMate 700/760 Version 6 update maps are over a year old!!

This is a warning to everyone with a RM 700/760. The V6 update that just came out in Nov/Dec 07 has old maps from 2006 Q3. My home address is not on this map (though my street is 3 years old). What's worse is that the newer Magellans that are in the stores (and that were in the stores before this map update came out) have my home address on their maps. Magellan is deceiving consumer by saying we are getting updated maps, but to sell us maps that are over a year old. They probably got these old maps at a bargain license fee from NavTeq and thought no one would call them on it. As many people as possible should complain about this to force Magellan to remedy this situation. I'll never buy Magellan again.

THE CURE for this problem is NEVER BUY Magellan again!!

After paying over £800 for an early Roadmate 700 (which failed and was replaced by a failed/recon version) then to have problems with software.. now having waited a year to get map update and version 6 firmware I find it doesn't give me Magellan Tools which was promised by Magellan Support.

After several mail queries and important qustions remaining unanswered I am buying a Tomtom Go 720T which will do all the updates automatically via a cradle linked to my PV/Internet.

NEVER EVER AGAIN a damned Magellan - great when it works but it's easier to get blood from a stone than good support from Magellan.

Bozena/Anton,

Thanks for using FIXYA!

Careful when opening the case because you'll have to unplug the cable from the main board prior to opening the case completely.

The RF cable could be loose inside. Carefully open the unit as to not potentially cause any further damage. The RF cable will be gray or black, it will be the only cable connected from the main (big) board to the RF (attached to the rear housing.. I believe) board. The connectors on either side of the cable have came loose. A "pad" being lifted results in a repair process that's beyond me, this meaning you can see white as opposed to silver. It may help continuity to re-flow the solder, if everything looks fine (heating up the existing solder and adding fresh solder).

Unplug the cable on both ends and plug back in to make sure the connectors on the circuit board aren't coming loose. If soldering is out of your league then I suggest finding someone that can. Let me know what happens, and careful when opening the case because you'll have to unplug the cable from the main board prior to opening the case completely.
