Faded print quality

I purchased a new printer, and upon replacing the ink cartridge for the first time I got a faded quality. I followed all the steps recommended by Brother; I checked to be sure the toner saver was off; I manually set the toner quality darker; and I even contacted Brother directly, but no solution. All they did was refer me back to the original recommendations. I tried a new toner cartridge (Brother brand, as recommended), but still faded print. This is getting expensive.

    I am having the exact same problem. I replaced the toner cartridge for the first time. I followed the instruction for chaning the toner cartridge including shaking it from side to side. I cleaned the inside and outside of the printer as suggested in the manual. I also made sure the "toner saver" feature was off as suggested in the tips for improving printer quality portion of the manual. The only thing I have not tried is replacing the printer drum. (The drum light has not come on, so I doubt this is the problem.



    None of these steps has helped. If you have any suggestions, please let me know. Thanks.

If your toner saver is off and still getting faded quality means you mirrors and Scanning Lamp are not reflecting images properly.
Now if you are handy on printer then you need to take off glass
faded print quality - bb15714.jpg from printer then you need to clean ADF units (mirrors,lense lamp etc)
0a45468.jpg but if you unaware of printer repairing, i highly recommend to call a printer tech who ca fix back it quick.

sometime printer acts weired due to this problem while printer or make copies.

How to fix problem, ink jets out towards back of inner printer instead of down on to paper


I would not worry about the ink on the inside of the printer. This is almost certainly just waste ink that has splattered here during printing/cleaning. The printhead is forced to face directly down inside the printer and if it was not this would cause the cartridge to be rejected and stop any printing.

If your pages are coming out blank I would recommend taking the following steps:

  1. First off please run any printer head cleaning cycles available from your printer software and check the quality of your prints.
  2. Fold a piece of kitchen tissue or any other non fibrous tissue and dab it under a tap to make a small damp patch. For best results make sure the water is warm.damp-paper-tissue.jpg
  3. Take the cartridge out of the printer and hold the damp patch over the printhead for 30-60 seconds.hp-300.jpg hp-300-on-tissue.jpg
  4. You should now hopefully have a small ink soaked patch on the tissue with traces of all the relevant colours. ink-patch.jpg
  5. Then wipe the printhead several times on the dry part of the tissue and you should start to see the colours come through. wipes.jpg
  6. Reinstall and run one more head cleaning cycle and with any luck you should be ready to print.
Sadly these cartridges are getting on a bit now and it is entirely possible that the printhead of the cartridge has stopped working entirely or is irreversibly clogged. If the cartridge has been purchased recently contact whoever you purchased it from. if not I would recommend buying a new black/colour ink cartridge.

Here are some steps you can check to resolve your issue.

Check if the ink cartridges are low, specially the color black since if the black is empty, you are using the colored cartridges to print black. If the cartridges are newly replaced check the cartridges by reseating it. Try to consider changing the print quality high but doing so will use more ink. If still the same try to clean your printer heads.

Here are the instruction for cleaning your printer.

Open the printer tool box. (open a word, then click on file then print, choose properties, then services)
click on clean the print cartridges, then clean. Do test printing as well to check if the color is correct. If still the same calibrate the color which can be found in the same menu.

I have been told my printhead is malfunctioning. Can I clean it myself?


You can look in thr user guide or printer help for Troubleshooting and Routine Manteinance.Make sure that the Printer Driver or Paper Type setting in the menu matches the
type of paper you are using. (See Printing in the Software User's Guide on the CDROM.Make sure that your ink cartridges are fresh. The following may cause ink to clog The expiration date written on the cartridge package has passed. (Cartridges
stay usable for up to two years if kept in their original packaging.) The ink cartridge was in your machine over six months.The ink cartridge may not have been stored properly before use.
Try using the recommended types of paper.
CLEANING:
Press Ink.
Press a or b to choose Cleaning.
Press OK.
Press a or b to choose Black, Color
or All.
Press OK.
The machine cleans the print head.
When cleaning is finished, the machine
will go back to standby mode
automatically.

Ok, ok, I know it's a no-no to buy after-market ink, but Lexmark


Not all aftermarket inks are bad. To clean your nozzles, I would "bite the bullet" and get new OEM cartridges, run the cleaning utility an nmber of times (at least 3) and the alignment procedure. This should put your quality back to factory standards. Be careful in using aftermarket or refilled cartridges. Check suppliers like LDProducts for cartridges that meet OEM specifications.

I have to ask this question of you, just to make sure this is not an issue. Are you using a factory new ink cartridge?
Please consider the following:
If you are using a refilled or third party cartridge that may well be your problem. Most manufacturers build logic into their products to prevent the use of “Other Equipment Manufactured” cartridges as well as re-filled cartridges.
They do this to prevent problems from contaminated inks causing problems with print quality or damaging the physical printhead.
If you are using factory new cartridges, then please call the manufacturers Technical Support for assistance with the warranty on the cartridges
