FREEZER HAS TOO MUCH FROST AND COOLING, MIDDLE AND LOWER SIDE HAS LESS COOLING WHIRLPOOL 175 MODEL

If there is no cooling at all on the fridge section but the freezer works then it is confirmed that the compressor and gas pressure is OK. Now shut off the fridge and leave it powered off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
Now after about 6 hours plug in the fridge to start. Observe cooling to happen in about one hour and ice to from under three hours.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
More freezing on the freezer means there is frosting Now you have observed that the fridge after working for about 24 hours does not cool , check if the fridge cuts off. If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked. Frost formation without defrosting could block the air flow and so shut the air passage to the fridge. Also the blower fan must work and if this is not working then the fan can be faulty. Also a fault on the control unit is a suspect to non functioning of any one of these components.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test using a multi-meter on the defrost timer and the thermostat and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

Freezer is cold, but cold air is not circulating in refrigerator

Check freezer fan is working. If ice formed over freezer fan by working. It's a common problem due to irregular defrosting. Keep freezer setting temp at 5 degree. And check defrost timer, thermostat, heater are working properly.
Turn timer with small tip screw driver to shut off fridge. If not shut off, replace timer. Turn counter clockwise defrost thermostat. If fridge not shuts off replace defrost thermostat.Check heater by join the 2 wires in the defrost thermostat. And after 1 minute, unplug power and keep your arm on heater. If it's warm heater is o.k. Otherwise, replace heater.
Once heater starts work at regular interval controlled by thermostat and timer, defrost will be good and effective cooling will also be in fridge compartment.

Our fridge is not keeping cool. both the fridge and freezer stopped working yesterday, then we vacummed it out- the freezer works but the fridge is only at 39 degrees. Help?!!!

If your freezer is working properly.(that is it freezes ice)and frig is at 39 dg then you most likely have a problem with air flow . set thermostat and air control at middle setting and leave there for a few hrs. You should see temps stabilize with some time.

The fridge is not cooling!! The motor and fan are both making noises as though they are working and the freezer is working perfectly. I have turned the thermostat up to the maximum but still no cool air.

If there is no cooling on the fridge but the freezer is cooling then the compressor and gas pressure seems good. So to check the set for blocks in the ducts we must shut off the fridge.Keep it off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost.
However if Ice forms then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked.
The fan making noise can be due to frost build up .If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
Do not set thermostat up to max but keep it to normal .So try this test from the outside and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

I have Whirlpool refrigerator model: ET1CHMXKB 09. My fridge and freezer both work, but my fridge is not getting as cold as it should be.

Check the setting on thermostat switch. May be it is on less cool side. Or the gas in your fridge is leaking thus effecting the cooling. Check that

Fridge and freezer same temp.

First of all, there is only one thing that cools in a fridge and that is the freezer. The fresh food section is cooled by air forced into it from the freezer.
  • You ice maker will not work if the temp inside the freezer is above 5 degrees. It has a thermostat inside it that enables it.
  • The knob that turns the fridge off and on is the thermostat for the freezer.
  • The other knob opens and closes a damper between the freezer and fresh food section.
  • There is a fan that should be running that pulls air from the freezer into the fresh food section.
(The factory does make the discription of the knobs confussing)

Now. turn one of the knobs all the way one way and then the next. If it turns the compressor off, it's the thermostat. If it does not, try the other knob. Once you find the thermostat, set it in the middle of the scale. Now place the other knob the same. Check and see if you can either feel or hear the inside fan running. If so lets go to the back. This is where your compressor is. It is under the fridge and also has a fan that blows on it. You will need to remove the back bottom panel. See if you can tell if the fan is running. Also notice if the fan is blowing into a set if coils. You should also be able to fill the compressor, if it's hot, it's running. If these two are running, and you didn't see a coil at the fan. Take the front kick panel off the fridge and clean the coil that's under the fridge. If it's dirty, give the fridge a couple hours and see if it cools down. If so, this was your problem. If both knobs are set mid scale, both fans are running, the compressor is also running and the coils are clean. You most likely have a bad timer, compressor or thermostat. This is all that's left.

Red alarm light is on on Westinghouse upright freezer

Most probably during transportation either the coolant(previously freon gas) may have leaked out so the pressure on the cooling pipeline causing the red alarm because the compressor will overheat if the fridge is kept running at very cold thermostat readings and no effect of cooling the fridge will ultimately result in the compressor getting burnt. However fist have look at thermostat setting knob which could have loosened during transportation and just pushed into the spindle without knowing the correct angle, thus even though it looks as if on high cool but could also be the lowest setting..........sodeep

I have an lg fridge freezer and the light worksbut there is no sound. any ideas?

Is that not a good thing? I take it you have no cooling effect in the freezer/fridge its possible that the setting is at zero you could try changing it to around 2-4 if still no cooling its possble you have a fault (with the compressor, wiring, thermostat or capacitor)
