Not sure what you are playing it on. A BLURAY disc needs a BluRay compatible disc player, PS3 has one built in. Most PC DVD drives dont play BluRay as standard. Normal HOME DVD players of course cant play them either.
I am having the same exact issue myself. Starting a month or two ago, it got harder and harder to get PS3 games to play. Now it plays anything that is not blu-ray based. I would be very interested in hearing how you are able to fix the problem.
First you need to verify that all types of discs won't read. there are 3 types that a ps3 will play CD, DVD and BluRay. If none of them work then your laser is either dirt and needs to be cleaned or is bad. If say dvd and cd works than the BluRay part of the lens needs to be calibrated which requires takign the system apart an voiding warranties.
It's quite likely due to a weak Blu Ray laser. The DVD and BluRay are 2 different lasers so it could still be able to read and play DVD/CD but not the BluRay games.
unfortunately your bluray laser has probably failed or is failiing. the diode burns
out quickly on these older units. call sony they charge 150 or send it
to me for 100..24hr turnaround
This is a very common problem with the PS3 and is caused by a problem with the laser on the Bluray drive which is malfunctioning and can no longer read the game disk properly.
The PS3 uses a dual laser system. This consists of either a dual refractor type lens or two entirely seperate lenses depending on which pickup is fitted to your particular system. One laser is for reading ordinary DVD disks and PS2 disks and the other for Bluray and PS3 games.
The symptoms you describe are typical of a failure of one of these lasers i.e the bluray laser has failed.
