I have a playstation 3 console 80 GB, almost 3 years old.... was working excellent. But yesterday started with a problem, doesn't want to read and play either PS3 games or BluRay movies. But still reading and playing PS2 games, DVD movies and CD's music. What could be the problem?

No your lazer is broken this is a sony repair

I have the same problem. My games freeze after 5 minutes. Same with blue rays but dvds play fine. I have reformatted the hard drive and formatted the file system. Nothing has worked. Hearing through multiple sources the blue ray laser is going out or the latest firmware update could be causing this. Hard to know for sure ... major disappoint. I have the 80 gig. 2 years old just starting doing this three days ago. Any other suggestions?

Tried several things and determined the blu-ray lens are shot. Traded system in towards a new one from Game Stop. Not worth the expense of lens replacement, cleaning and overall frustration.

you guy need a new blu ray player call sony if ur under warrenty its free if not 150$ but free shipping u can fix it ur self but i dont recommend 60 80 an 160 gb take the 400aaa kes blu ray player its about 90$ but ur better off sending it to sony they will give u another year warrenty when u do

Phone sony, there numbers in warranty book. If its under a year old they will fix it free of charge, if not its gonna cost you. Thousands of people are having this problem, i'm onto my 6th ps3 now, but because ive had each one less than 3 mths they keep replacing it with another one and another 3 months warranty, On the last one i got they didn't have a 60 gb one so they just replaced it with a 80 gb one.

The read/write head is probably screwed..I advice that you get it replaced as its under warranty..
