Mildew Smell I just bought a new LG front loading washer (LG WM2496H). It has a mildew smell that I cannot get rid of. I've tried the tub cleaning cycle and several loads of wash with bleach. I like the way it washes and the fact that it saves water but I cannot deal with the mildew odor in my house. Any ideas before I return it?

I have the same problem and was happy to see that there was someone else who did too. I am hoping we can get an answer, it's really bad but I love the washer.

Miele washing machines would last longer than other brands, at least that listed the seller and there Miele also advertises with "Miele there is no better." Our experience is approximately equal to that of the first detector. Our washing machine Miele W2521 broke down last Friday. Purchase Feb 2004 so as 8 years. Inner drum was eccentric relative to outer drum. As it turned out, the aluminum arms that are affected within driving drum / turning and torn. On the heat exchanger was substantially no calcification while there is between the two drums a grains of material layers which, in all probability of the affected U arms were derived. In my view irreparably damaged. I reported this to the official Miele service was defined in the Miele bookletI was surprised by their reaction, problem known by Miele. Their official response is: Cause, the water in our area is low (surrounding Amsterdam) washing frequency is too low (we wash 3x per week), we wash at too low a temperature and you should at least 1x / week 90 / 95 degrees to wash (we keep washing instructions on clothing), we would use too much and liquid detergent which is not good (indeed liquefied but according to specifications and plumbing advice concerning risk clogging sewer). The material Aluminium arms is affected by the enzymes in the liquid detergent composition which is washed away too little because we too little and on to wash to a low temperature. Problem known by manufacturer Miele (Germany) which makes devices for the German market and on that tune does not change the structure of our soft water. The water in Germany is much harder, and this does not occur. incomprehensible to me and this is the official version of Miele (Oct 2012). we can make us strong together there must be more cases!

------------- This was a Miele BUT other brands can have same probklems all what happens can be a problem by watersofteners AND the used materials where the heating element and even some little screws are made from its a problem if aluminum brass or other containing salt material detergent and a differend PH water hardness / by wrong acidity is to find if water hardness differs in Country's its all possible caused by galvanic reactions by choosen materials(metals) in combination with hot washing and to soft water and detergents.drum crosses which is in the drive will lower mainly of aluminum instead of cast iron marketing reasons now at Miele, LG and other brands

I have no idea if this will actually work, I have never tried it myself, but a guy I worked with on washing machines years ago used to swear by putting 3 DISHWASHER tablets in the drum and then running the hottest cycle that the machine would run (White cottons 90 degrees if you have it).

Any of you have a dishwasher and want to try throwing 3 tablets into the washing machine and reporting back on the result?

I just want an owners manual for my LG WM2010CW. We bought our house with this great washer, plus I have a mildew smell I can't get rid of

Sorry to say but the mildew odor is from excess use of detergent. The only way to truly get rid of it is to have the tub assembly torn down completely and cleaned out. Also replace the front door seal gasket to truly get rid of everything.
For temporary, you can use a chemical treatment called Whirlout or Affresh to mask out the odor but it won't totally get rid of it.
Good luck.

I have a Maytag Neptune model # MAH5500BWW. It appears that there is still water inside the tub after completing a wash cycle. I only noticed it as I tried to get a stuck sock from the top of the tub and...

the noise you're describing is normal - there is water in a sealed balance ring on the inner tub. To get rid of the mildew and smell, leave door open after cycle and use something like Affresh or "Smelly washer" stuff monthly or more often.

even wityh a septic tank you can use bleach. the amount will be so little in regards to the amouny of bacteria in your tank it should not harm it when you do it once per mont. Take to filter out in the front though and clean it good. Should be located at the left bottom front

LG washing machine has AWFUL mildew smell

Same problem and I was told to only use detergents with "HE" on the front of them for high energy. the soap without HE is too foamy and hence never truly drains out and causes a mildew smell. I also purchased something called "A" Fresh that I run in the washer every 6 weeks to keep the smell out. I got it at an appliance store for about $11.00 for 3 tablets

Mildew smell

Try doing just a hot bleach water "load".  Also check underneath and around the machine to make sure it's not leaking.  If it did or is and you can see the mildew just spray it with bleach.
