SOURCE: Can't transfer recorded video to CD

This is a problem with the type of drives that are supported by the Picture Package software (assuming this is what you are using to transfer the video). This camcorder came with Picture package 1.0 which does not support quite a few drives (the entire list is available at www.ppackage.com). I think your drive will also fall under the same list of unsupported drives.

SOURCE: Memory Stick for the Sony Handycam DCR-DVD 105

This camera uses memory stick duo memory. If you refer to p. 31 of the user manual found here:
http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DCRDVD105-205-305.pdf
It is right beneath the strap.
Keep me posted. I hope you find this FixYa worthy.
Thanks,

SOURCE: Sony Handycam Dig 8 doesn't recognize tape when trying to record

If it has memory stick, Make sure your memory stick is in. Your memory stick is full. Delete the unwanted pictures from the memory stick or use a differnt biger memory stick.

I looked in the manual. It seems your camcorder does not have a slot for memory stick. But you may still save pictures on the tape. Here is the link to download the manual

http://www.docs.sony.com/release/DCRTRV140.pdf

Please read Page 40 "recording picture on the tape".

GOOD LUCK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

SOURCE: Trying to transfer camcorder video to computer.

To transfer camcorder video to computer, you need the following:-
1. Firewire cable (it looks similar to the USB cable, but has very high speed capability)
2. Appropriate software/application.
If a firewire cable did not come with your camcorder then see that purchase one right away, ‘cause you will always need it for this purpose. Then you should have a video editing software like Adobe Premiere or Ulead installed on your system. Adobe Premiere is recommended for its speed.
Once you have these in place, all you need do is connect the camcorder to your computer via firewire, have your video editing application/program open, and simply playback. You will observe that the playback on the camcorder is at the same time being shown on the computer screen within the application. While the mini DV tape is playing back click on capture on the video editing application you are doing the playback from, i.e. Adobe Premiere, Ulead etc.

Do i need a sd card o make camera work

You can't make the DCR-HC42 work with an SD card. This camcorder uses DV tapes, or Memory Stick Duo or Memory Stick Pro Duo memory cards.

I have a Sony Memory Stick Duo Adapter with 1 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo insert. When I put in my DCR-TRV18 camera and switch it to Memory, I get Memory Stick Error on the screen

On many cameras , the picture format that you can save on memory stick is not the same that you can have by recording on tapes. It should be the same on your handycam.

You can increase memory stick to at least 2GB, that is what sony reccomends, you can test a 4 gb to 16 gb at the shop, if it works , then buy it.

However, the quality of movies grabbed on memory stick, should be far less than the one of movies recorded on tape.

How do I get Handycam DCR-DVD305 to recod videos onto a memory stick duo pro?

It is not possible to record the videos onto a Memory Stick Duo or Pro Duo, as this Camcorder DCRDVD305 does not support video recording onto the Memory Stick.
To record the videos you may use 8cm DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+RW.

Viewing SONY 8mm Tapes -- Please help

The older tapes were shot on a 8mm camcorder and the camcorder you have wil not play them becasue it doesn't have backwards compatability with the older format. The tapes you recorded are on a digital 8 camcorderr and it is different encoding than the one you recorded the other 60 tapes with. You will need to find either a dcr-trv 350 trv 530 trv 730 ect as these have the ability to play all the tapes.
Or find an older 8mm camcorder to play your tapes with.
Hope this helps
