Hi i have just brought a sony dcr-sx30 handycam also just purchased a second hand 8gb memory stick pro duo from ebay.when i turn the recorder on a message displays for about 5secs "this memory stick may not be able to record or play images correctly" even after i have formatted and cleared the card using the handycam several times, but it does work ok.Surely this message should not be displayed?

On
many cameras , the picture format that you can save on memory stick is
not the same that you can have by recording on tapes. It should be the
same on your handycam.
You can increase memory stick to at least
2GB, that is what sony reccomends, you can test a 4 gb to 16 gb at the
shop, if it works , then buy it.
However, the quality of movies grabbed on memory stick, should be far less than the one of movies recorded on tape.
It is not possible to record the videos onto a Memory Stick Duo or Pro Duo, as this Camcorder DCRDVD305 does not support video recording onto the Memory Stick.
To record the videos you may use 8cm DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD+RW.
I am so sorry my friend, you have same problem as we all have, no memory bigger that 1 gb will work in cameras older than 3 years, I think yours is yes? the camera simply does not see those, sad I know, but that is how it is, I know because I have 3, yes 3 adaptors and 3 big mem bits here, and my money is lost. Hi!
This is a feature and not a defect of the CX-12 that reminds the user that the memory stick inserted might not be able to record the data from the camera effectively. HD video requires a memory stick with a relatively fast data read/write speed, and the CX-12 recommends not using any other stick that is not Mark 2.
Fortunately, though, as you have found out, it does not affect the camera's ability to record in non-Mark 2 sticks.
Hope this helps!
