What memory stick works in the DCR-TRV340 Sony Handycam?
I lost the memory stick which came with my Sony digital video camera recorder, Sony Handycam DCR-TRV340 Digital-8 Camcorder. I was advised that the memory stick is no longer available, but has been replaced by the Memory Stick Pro Duo, Magic Gate. I purchased two of the Pro Duo Memory Sticks, 2 GB, but when attempting to record a picture, the message Memory Stick Error appears. I have tried formatting the memory stick, Menu of the camera, but still receive the message. What can I do or did I perhaps purchase the wrong memory stick? Please advise if the Memory Sticks I purchased are incorrect for the camera and, if so, what is correct? Help and Thank You.

Do not panic, yes the Sony mem stick can record, but why dont you use the proper tapes for these cameras to do your movies on? they are readily available in all good camera shops, even Argos do them. The mem sticks are available from your local Maplin shop okay. David
I just looked at my Sony DCR-TRV30. Not the same, but perhaps similar. My camera records lengthy videos on tape and only brief videos on memory stick. I suggest that you stick to tape for video. Good Luck almarc13
On many cameras , the picture format that you can save on memory stick is not the same that you can have by recording on tapes. It should be tha same on your handycam.
You can increase memory stick to at least 2GB, that is what sony reccomends, you can test a 4 gb to 16 gb at the shop, if it works , then buy it.
However, the quality of movies grabbed on memory stick, should be far less than the one of movies recorded on tape.
I believe all Sony model DCR-TRV2XX and 3XX would play Hi 8 and ST8
Such as DCR-TRV265, DCR-TRV285 DCR-TRV340, DCR-TRV355
I hope that give you some ideas
