It is showing C 8. what does it mean and also the printer is unable to print. please give reply.

You need to pres Menu-Start-Up Arrow 4 times in less than 2 Seconds !!! and you will be in Maintenance mode. LEDs will be flashing. Press the Up Arrow and numbers will change and press OK after the one you want to select. The number sequence is the following. 8-0 2-8-6-4 4-4-6-0 7-7 9-9

• Try restarting the printer, or unplugging it and waiting a few minutes to turn it back on

It's mean error in Purge unit on your printer.You can't fix it by yourself and printer need repair.

have you try POST i mean power on self test.....?
if not try and see if it can print like that

Access the internal maintenance mode by pressing the Menu/Set button, then press * 2 8 6 4 within 2 seconds. This should put you in the maintenance mode menu. Enter 80, then scroll down with the arrow down (round) key. You'll find an entry listed as purge count. If number is over 6000, enter 2 7 8 3.

This will reset the purge count value. Then the printer will restart, try this step by step.without missing any thing. thanks

in this case , what iLL do is to "REBOOT" , UNISTALL EVERYTHING that has to do with the HP printer , I mean everything ,after deleting all driver of printer , go to START , click SEARCH , and write " hp deskjet 3740" click search , if something shows , delete it , then install the drivers again ,

- pull out the AC plug
- put back the AC plug while holding down the "menu" button and keep holding it (15 sec)
- now you are entering the MAINTENANCE mode and "error 46" pops up in the display
- select 8 by using the arrow buttons ,push OK and select 0 and push OK
- 00:00 00:01 OK (the display is showing this message)
- now push the MONO button 25 times until you see PURGE: xxxxx
- Select 2, push ok, select 7,push ok,select 8,push ok, select 3,push ok
- the purge counter indicates now: purge: 00000
- switch off the printer ,switch it on
- ready to print

If trying to Print in Word 2003 - 2002 - 2002

Click on tools > options > Print tab > Uncheck Back Ground Printing. Click on ok. Try Printing.

 

If you are trying to Print from Word 2007.

Click on Office button > Word options > Advanced > Locate Print options and uncheck Backgound Printing click on ok. try Printing

5A means that the purge cam stopps abnormally when it is in use. This could be of a broken cam shaft. You have to replace the whole purge unit. This is a service job to do!
