The print engine will be the same (supplied by Xerox) the control boards were for both TG and Oki printers designed by part of TG before bankruptcy in 2009.
Importantly the toner cartridges have a chip on them to identify to the printer which cartridge is inserted, the chip on the cartridge will more than likely be the only difference. Hence you see the Missmatch message when you insert the cartridge in the wrong printer.
I am afraid the TI 8920 is a rather old model of printer, with the Texas Instruments brand or printer long discontined and with the demise of Genicom there are no Windows 2008 drivers for this printer. You may wish to use the Generic Text only printer driver inculded within the Windows Add Printers Wizard, I do not belive there is any alternative
