I had the same problem. All I needed to do was unwind the cord which was tying the wand tight to the canister. I must admit I called Shark for this solution. Very embarrassing for me but the Rep was patient and kind. Their Customer Service Department was easy to reach and very committed to solving the problem. They get an A+ and I get a big fat F!!!

The first time I used the vac the wand wouldn't come out...because I had the cord still wrapped up. The cord must be completely undone or, as you probably now see, it holds the wand firmly in place.

Cannot release handle or wand when I press the release button. .

We had the same problem.... we had to push both wand and lift way buttons together to make the wand release. I think it is a faulty button issue.

Dyson dc25 animal retractable wand won't go back

Did you try to release the extension by clicking on the red button on the back of the wand? This may allow you to see what is obstructing the pathway for the wand..

I hope that helps.

Dyson dc27 (not ball version) extension wand will not release from the body. Have had the the vacuum cleaner for a year and it has been fine until now. Have tried disconnecting aluminium tube from the hose...

Hi there,

Sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC27. If the wand is jammed, it's likely that the hose was twisted when you replaced the wand on the cleaner the last time you used it. It's easy to rectify:

  • Pull the wand up as far as it will go
  • With the rear of the cleaner facing you, follow the hose down to where it attaches at the base of the machine
  • Grip the section of loose hose and pull it away from the cleaner
  • Holding the loose section of hose out of the way, pull the hose release tab
  • With the base of the hose detached from the cleaner, allow the hose to straighten itself out
  • Reattach hose to cleaner
You should find following these steps untwists the hose, allowing the wand to move up and down without restriction. However, if you need further assistance, please get in touch with us free so one of our experts can run through some troubleshooting checks over the phone with you. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

Jack

I just received a DC 28 animal vacuum and I cannot pull the extension wand out. I see the button to make the wand go up out of the hose, but I cannot figure out how to release the handle from the vacuum. ...

Hi there,

The Quick-draw Telescope Reach wand on your DC28 is designed to detatch from the cleaner automatically when you extend the wand to it's fullest extent. When you replace the wand on the cleaner, the wand will retract automatically down inside the hose. The button on the rear of the wand which you mention will separate the end of the hose from the wand, so you can use the hose without the wand attached when cleaning in tighter spaces. You do not need to press this to extend or retract the wand.

If you have any further questions about using or maintaining your Dyson, please see the user guide supplied with the cleaner, or visit www.dyson.com and click on 'Support. If you'd prefer to speak to one of our experts directly, you can call us free on 1866MYDYSON.

Kind regards,

Cannot put handle on dyson

Hi,

Did you receive the handle with the wand already attached? It should be. Then, to get it into the hose pres the wand release button on the end of the hose and slide the wand into the hose. The wand should then be pushed into the slot on the back of the machine until you hear a click. If you don't hear the click, it will come out.

I hope this helps. If this does not do it for you, please reply back to me. Thanks,
I'd appreciate your vote.
