I called Dyson because I had a similar problem. When I pushed the red button down on my dc25, but it would not stay down. The vacuum would turn on when the button was pushed down, but of course when I let go of it the vacuum would shut off. The helpful telephone tech. Recognized the symptom right away and told me to push down on the button fully and let It flick up like a lighter. I about fell off my chair when that worked right away! Anyways for what it's worth, she said sometimes the mechanism in the buttons gets consnarlitated (my tern, not hers!) and this resets the spring.
To fix any noise and brush roll issues that your Dyson vacuum gives, a proper maintenance will do the trick. Most of the time, cleaning the filters, checking for blockages and clearing the passageways will eliminate the noise.

If the brush bar motor is running try putting on a new belt. If the motor is not running it may be the main switch, the switch that activates when you recline the handle, the motor itself or a loose wire or connector somewhere. Check the connection between the vacuum and the power head. If power isn't transferred properly the motor will not run.
You have to closely check all these areas to find the problem.
Remove the torx screws that hold the two halves of the ball shell assembly together, then the ball halves can be separated and removed from the vacuum. Take note of how they come apart and how they line up su you can reassemble them properly.
Your vacuum has a thermal reset built into the motor. If it is getting to hot it will shut off and won't turn on until it cools down. This is a sign of a clog somewhere or the filters need to be replaced. If you are getting dust building up on the vacuum that is an indicator the filters may need replaced.
I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty releasing your DC25's wand, but this is likely to be simple to resolve. It probably just means that the hose was twisted around when you last replaced the wand on the machine - allowing the hose to unwind will free up the wand. Just follow these steps:

We have a DC65 Animal, the extension tube on the hose would not slide into the top of the handle.
1. Slide the hose into the cradle on the handle
2. Push the tube down close to its stowed position
3. Near the bottom of the hose, gently push the hose against the handle with one hand and then push the tube down with your other hand
4. Close the cap on the top of the handle
To resolve this, try removing and replacing the post-filter, as shown in our filter wash video guide below:
When replacing the filter, make sure you push it firmly into place, until you hear a click from the red locking catch.
