Hi, maybe your system is corrupted, that's why it goes like that, you may try to repair your system using your windows installer. if you don't know how to do this. you better have your laptop repair by a professional computer technician.

Good luck, have a nice day

If you have a function button try holding it down and pressing F2, possibly the screen has been accidentally switched off.

Try holding down the power button until the computer force shuts down. If that doesn't work, you may need to pull the battery. Don't worry about damaging files, everything should be fine. When Windows boots up again, you just need to select "Start Windows normally".

Try pressing and holding the power button until the computer shuts down.
Also note that when removing the battery, you also need to unplug the power cord in order to shut down the computer in that manner.

How to log off

If you log off you only close your user session under windows, not turn off the computer.

If you suspend you turn off almost everything in the laptop like hardwire, cd or dvdrom and most peripherals but the computer stays on the consuming power.

If you hibernate what windows does is to store all in memory in a temporary file in the hard drive and turn off all the computer so when you turn it on again it will be as you last session with all your programs and documents you left open.

And if you turn off the computer it will close all your programs, close windows and turn off all the hardware.

My laptop won't shut down properly!

Is it possible that you have changed the settings of what buttons do what on your system? E.g. you could have changed the power button to "switch user" instead of "shut down", to check this (in XP) go to "Power Options" (in Control Panel" and then click on the "Advanced tab" at the top, then select "Shut down" from the drop down menu at the bottom of the window.

If this is already set to shut down then maybe you could do a system restore in case another setting has been changed, restore it to before the PC started doing this.

Alternatively try actually choosing "Turn off Computer" from the Log On screen (press Ctrl + L to get to this screen, or choose switch user/log off). If you are using Vista I beleive that there is a shut-down option from the Log In Page there (which again you can access by pressing Ctrl + L on the keyboard.

Hope this helps!

Signing out problem

To turn off, hold down power button (may take "long" time--6-8seconds). It WILL shut down.

If recurring problem, check setup settings for Power switch and lid options--turn off, go into standby, etc.

Logging Off and won't come back on what to do

You can shut it down hard (by holding the power button until it shuts off), wait at least 10 seconds (for your hard drive to stop spinning) then start it up and then try shutting down windows normally instead of just closing the laptop's lid. You can then go into user accounts and delete all accept for your Administrative account (even Guest account), and see if that cures your ills.
Good Luck.
