The message is displayed because your version of windows is not genuine. here are some steps to make your windows genuine
1 . start > run > " regedit" (without the quotes of course)

2 . Go to the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WindowsNT\ CurrentVersion\WPAEvents\OOBETimer
…and doubleclick on it.
Then change some of the value data to ANYTHING ELSE…delete some, add some letters, ..just change it! now close out regedit.

3 . Go to start > run > "%systemroot%\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe /a" (again, don't type the quotes)

4 . The activation screen will come up, click on register over telephone,>next> then click on CHANGE PRODUCT KEY, enter in this key:

JG28K-H9Q7X-BH6W4-3PDCQ-6XBFJ and give update.

(Now automatically window will return back to activate by telephone mode and ask for activation code, just ignore and exit that window it's done)

the only permanent method to remove that message is buying an original version and i do recoment that, than the steps above........

THERE ARE NUMBER OF METHODS BUT FOR YOU THESE 2 METHODS ARE GOOD

1) METHOD:-
TRY SYSTEM RESTORE.

2) METHOD:-
2.1) LAUNCH WINDOWS TASK MANAGER.
2.2) End wgatray.exe Process In Task Manager.
2.3) Restart System In Safe Mode.
2.4) Delete wgatray.exe from c:\Windows\System32.
2.5)
Delete wgatray.exe from c:\Windows\System32\dllcache.
2.6) Launch RegEdit.
2.7) Browse the following key HKEY_LOCALMACHINE\SOFTWARE\MICROSOFT\WINDOWSNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify.
2.8) Delete The Folder "WgaLogon" and all of its component.
2.9 ) Reboot System.

3.0) BE HAPPY NOW.... AND NEVER EVER INSTALL WINDOWS GENUINE ADVANTAGE NOTIFICATION IN WINDOWS UPDATE OTHERWISE YOU HAVE TO REPEAT THE DAMN PROCESS AGAIN.

IN ORDER TO THAT FOLLOW THIS

START
--> CONTROL PANEL--> AUTOMATIC UPDATES --> CHOOSE THE OPTION """"""""""""Notify me but don't automatically download or install them"""""""""""

When u use this option whenver your system detects any new WINDOWS UPDATE choose the updates which u want to install... DONT INSTALL WINDOWS XP SERVICE PACK --3.

"You may be a victim

Welcome to FixYa!

If you're seeing notifications that the copy of Windows that is installed on your PC might not be genuine, or that you might be a victim of counterfeit software, it's likely that your copy of Windows was not properly activated or is otherwise not genuine. To fix this, click the notification and follow the steps to either repair Windows or-if you have inadvertently obtained counterfeit software-buy genuine Windows.

If you are using Windows XP, download and install the Windows Genuine Advantage Notification Application. It will scan your operating system and will remove the annoying message if it's a legitimate copy of windows.

HI,

That message ("you may be a victim of software counterfeiting") is displayed when your Windows serial number is being used by someone else. If your copy of Windows is legitimate, try contacting Microsoft support.

OK, This is a notice from Microsoft. The validation tool thinks your Version is a counterfeit. It is not a virus, but is still a headache no less. It will not go away, we can't shut it off. The only way to fix is to reload with a valid code or call Microsoft to report it. I hope this helps :)
