When logging off my laptop, and before going into shutdown, I closed the lid on my laptop. The window is now stuck showing the prepare to shutdown screen. The mouse pad still works but nothing I push will make any difference. HELP!?????

Try holding down the power button until the computer force shuts down. If that doesn't work, you may need to pull the battery. Don't worry about damaging files, everything should be fine. When Windows boots up again, you just need to select "Start Windows normally".

Notebook Crashes to PowerOff state when lid is closed

Running intense program with the lid closed will cause a sharp rise in temperature making the laptop hotter than it should be leading it into a shutdown. The second issue, windows should be shutdown properly rather than closing the lid, this makes the operational system unstable and will cause files to corrupt eventually.

My Vaio doesn't go to sleep/hibernate when closing the lid

Maybe the little sensor or pin that sticks up and is pushed in when you close the lid is broken and the software doesn't realize the lid has been closed.

Screen won't come on when laptop powers on

1. Software
- Try Fn + F5 or something like that

2. Electrical
- Remove battery, unplug power, hold power button for 60 seconds, turn on computer with power plug only, then shutdown, add battery and restart

3. Magnetic On/Off Switch to detect of Close/Open Lid
- Your magnet switch is fubar some how. Open up the speaker cover and see if your lid actuator switch that come in contact with the magnet on your lid cover is stuck or not (find where the magnet is in the back of the front lid cover, trace where the magnet area actually touches the base of the computer and you will find the switch)
- Workaround, start windows with lid at 30 degree angle

By default, all laptops either go on standby or turn off to save precious battery, but you can override these rules from the Power Options (XP) in your control panel (Start > Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance > Power Options) and click on Advanced Tab and override the settings according to your preference.

Logging Off and won't come back on what to do

You can shut it down hard (by holding the power button until it shuts off), wait at least 10 seconds (for your hard drive to stop spinning) then start it up and then try shutting down windows normally instead of just closing the laptop's lid. You can then go into user accounts and delete all accept for your Administrative account (even Guest account), and see if that cures your ills.
Good Luck.
