Stihl ts 420 concrete saw screws will not come out to replace air filter

I'm trying to replace the filter on my stihl ts 420 asphalt saw and 2 of the srews just keep turning. I took some of the plastic covers off the saw and I can see where themetal threads for the screws have become loose and just keep turning. I have to use the saw on a big job tomorrow and it won't run because they factory made the new models to run like **** when they are do for filter replacement. If you can help me out it would be much appreciated. Thank you

This was very common, they say it was because the screws were too long and prutruding through the nut the thread then gets covered in concrete dust and when trying to unscrew locks in the thread. You will probably have to destroy the cover to get it off.

SOURCE: hi there; my stihl ts 420 does not start easily

replace the decompression valve. also check for carbon buildup on top of piston. usually when a saw stops on its own after 5 min or so.... the piston and jug are scored and need to be replaced.

SOURCE: I purchased a used Stihl

This was a problem with the original unit. They have since fixed this problem. There is a kit you can get from your Stihl dealer. It is a fuel tank/ air filter kit. You would have to replace the tank housing which is where the air filter bolts up to. You can have the dealer do it, or you can do it yourself. The kit is not cheap, but it will cure your problem. I've used a hacksaw to cut through the old bolts. Then you can change out the tank housing.

SOURCE: how do i get the lower screws out of the filter

I HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. REALLY NO GOOD SOLUTION.. I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE ONLY ONE SCREW. I HAD TO PRY COVER OFF AS BEST I COULD WITH THE SCEWS STILL INTACT.EVEN AFTER GETTING THE COVER OFF I COULD NOT REMOVE THE SCREWS WITHOUT POSSIBLY DAMAGING MORE OF THE SAW. I CAN NOW SLIDE THE COVER ON OVER THE PROTRUDING SCEWS AND HOLD IT IN PLACE WITH THE ONE I COULD GET OUT WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM DUCT TAPE. THE WORST DESIGN I HAVE EVER SEEN FOR AN EXPENSIVE TOOL. SHOULD HAVE STUCK WITH THE TS400. A SIMPLER MORE PRACTICAL DESIGN. I GUESS THEY EXPECT YOU TO REMOVE AND CLEAN AND OIL THESE SCREWS DAILY. PHIL

SOURCE: Ts420 stihl cut off saw

the jets in the carburetor need to be cleaned out very well to operate this engine
the holes in the jets are very small and clog up easily with in a year or two

My Brand new Stihl ts420 cut saw wont run full throtle, smokes white, and leaks fuel out of exhaust filter. it runs like the choke is half on.

This sounds like the carb is flooding, there is a rubber tipped needle under the metering side of the carb, this may be leaking, before replacing the needle make sure the air filter is not blocked, replace with a new filter and try again

Need to know belt size fo the stihl ts400 concrete cutoff saw

You should go to a Stihl dealer and ask for the belt for a TS 400 Cut Off Saw. The belt is ribbed, you should only put on a Stihl part to replace the belt and make sure the belt is under the correct tension. When you go to the Stihl dealer you can ask them to show you how to make sure the belt is under the correct amount of tension.
