Get rid of pet urine odor in the vaccuum

I have 2 dogs. At some point in time I'm certain that one of them has urinated on the floor and it was swept up into the vacuum cleaner. Do you have any suggestions for getting the smell out?

Susan,
I think you can find your solution with any number of products found at petedge.com. The decision you are really left with is what odor you prefer as they have pine and citrus scented products. You may also be able to find comparable products at a local pet super store also. It will be a laborious task though as you will need to soak the hose if detachable and scrub the vacuum itself. An easier but perhaps less effective way would be to buy a carpet shampoo odor eliminator solution and allow the vacuum to do the work for you. Obviously you will need to change the bag before and after if your unit using bags. I hope this is of assistance to you and I have provided a link below to the specific web page for Pets Edge Odor eliminating products. My wife is in the pet service industry and loves this store. Thanks for using Fix Ya and if I can be of further assistance please let me know.

Usually a mixture of 1/3 cup of white vinegar with 1/3 cups of water when poured into and around suction opening will solve the problem.

Try a bagless vacuum cleaner as hair blocks up bags very quickly. One that is around 2000 watts should have enough power to do the job. As for the price check appliance stores for sales and deals.

Please check the suction on your machine? Is it strong? It may be that you have a clog, particularly since you have dogs, cats and children!

It suction is fine, have you checked the rotating roller brush? If the point of pickup is poor on your floors, you may need to check your belt. You may have picked up a large object that has affected the tension in the belt. Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulty using your DC24 on this particular flooring. The cleaner head is designed to adjust automatically to suit the surface being cleaned, and the cleaner's powerful suction causes the soleplate to seal closely with the flooring for high pick-up of dirt and debris. You may find on certain floor types that this makes the cleaner feel a little heavy to push.

Reassuringly, it sounds as if your cleaner is working correctly - however, if you wish to discuss your issue further with one of our experts, please get in touch with us directly. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US).

Kind regards,

When vacuuming hardwood floor, hair gathers on brush and never sucks into vacuum. I spend most of my time cleaning off brushes. How do I clean hardwood floor with dog hairs.

1. Broom and dust pan, then mop
2. Wet dry vac with wide non-brush attachment
3. Here's a link to a vacuum professing to clean pet hairs well

http://www.evvive.com/shop-by-brand/miele-open-box-canister-vacuums/miele-s516-cat-dog-vacuum_2

4. Try to find a wide attachment for the hose that has no brush, maybe something from a wet dry vac.

5. Take your dog outside and brush every day. It helps, but no matter what you do, you will have pet hair if you have an indoor pet.

6. Go to the source. See if your dog will be vacuumed. Half serious on this one.

Good luck!

I have the bissell powertrak revolution. I have hardwood floors...even on the lowest setting it is throwing some dirt back at me instead of picking it up....

do not worry about this....it is a common issue with every brand of vacume this style....the poblem is not of power or quality..but rather one of friction or lack of resistance because of the smooth floor surface....carpet surfaces permit the brush part of the roller to FLICK the dirt back up high enough ( only millimeters) to be sucked by the continuous suction flow of the vacume...however smooth finished hardwood or tile floors allow for the heavier none dust particules on your floors to be swept accross the floor with speed...if there was a back drop on the back end of your vacume cleaner these particules would be stoped and sucked up....try taping a strip of brstle board paper with scotch tape to the back part of ur vame head and see if it makes a differnce. Put the paper at dragging floor level and tape it..then sprinkle some dried toast on the bare floor and try it....let me know if it works...

Even the professionals have problems getting pet stain smells out of carpeting. You need to use a good deodorizer and get the carpet as dry as possible.

Our dog urinated on the machine. We cleaned both filters & plastic areas. Some might have gotten into the motor housing since it still smells terribly when turned on. Please advise

Place a Febreze sheet in the canister/dirt bin where the dirt collects. Let it spin around in there whilst you're using the machine. The fragrance will be spread throughout the vacuum cleaner. If that still doesn't work, you can always replace your filter - just call the Dyson Helpline and biuy a new one.
