I have a GSS22IBMA GE side buy side. The fridge side works fine but the freezer will not freeze. Also it is hot around the the door frame of the freezer sometime quite hot.

If your freezer is icing up it is the defrost mechanism consisting of the timer, heating element, and defrost thermostat.

When you unplug unit everything melts and it runs fine for a few days till it freezes up again.

Usually it is the heating element that just burns out and has to be replaced.

That seem to me like it could bea simple cleaning. Dust and junk gets into the condenser. Blow that ****** out and party on. I have your models service manual on my foggy blog

There are heaters located inside the door frame, to prevent your doors from freezing shut, and also to prevent condensation on the outside of the appliance. It sounds to me as though that is where your problem is... Hope this helps

Is it hot all the way around, or just on the face of the divider between the freezer and fridge? If it's just the divider, then it's probably not a defrost problem. When that divider gets hot, it usually means there is inadequate air flow over the condenser coils outside the unit.

When the compressor is running, check for air blowing under the unit. If no air is moving, then you probably have a failed condenser fan. If the fan is running, then use your vacuum cleaner to clean the coils, and make sure there is space behind the fridge for air to flow.

defrost it for 2 days with the door open

the dampener door in the fresh food is more then likely broke . allowing air in to the fresh food.

I had that problem in my refrigerator and found out that it was coming from the freezer. The thermostat in the freezer broke and it was crazy freezing in the freezer part as well as freezing in the refrigerator. Once we replaced the thermostat everything was fine. It cost me $125

Folow these steps. It's worth a try.
1.Pull the fridge out from the wall and unplug it.
2. Clean the dust and lint off the compresser and everything else.
3. Also clean under the fridge.
4. The frame around the freezer door should cool down.

If the cooling fan was stuck , that may also be a cause for your refrigerator wall becoming hot.Check that too.

I hve the same problem of the water not coming out. After reading this forum that suggested this is caused by a frozen line, I increased the temperature (less cold) of the fridge and freezer, and turned on the light (generates heat in the area). After a couple of days, the water worked.

I fixed mine by leaving the light on the dispenser on. It took about 6 hrs, but the little heat from the light bulb was enough to defrost the water line.
