took the icemaker out of a GE fridge and installed into a Kitchenaid fridge freezer on top model 1995. the icemaker worked flawlessly in the GE fridge, so am confident the ice maker is not the problem. however, not so confident that the wiring has been properly connected.
The icemaker has; green, black, white and orange wires.
The Kitchenaid fridge has; green, black, white and tan wires.
Comon sense would tell me to connect the green-to green, black-to-black, white-to-white, and orange-to-tan, which is what I have done.
The water solenoid valve has a plug that connects to the valve with one connector being a dual tan wire, and the second connector containing a white wire.
When connected the water valve does not open to allow water passage.
Which wires are incorrectly connected?
thanks

you will have 120vac at the Valve when it is calling for water from the Icemaker..you will have 120vac at the Valve when it is calling for water from the Icemaker..

Re:
Icemaker must be at 28 degrees to make ice. The harness supplying the power should have 120 volts there at all times, and the icemaker itself is the device that switches the power off and on once all requirements are met. Your diagram for the fridge is on the rear service panel, or in a packet on the insisde rear..accordianman

Check out the water source to the refrigerator. Re the icemaker - is there water in tray? If so you need a new heater assembly. No ice? - then the water solenoid is not working.
if you can reverse the solenoid valve wire connections, then use the door water fill to activate this valve, but not long as it will overfill the icemaker, this will certify that theres water getting up to the icemaker, then it could be the maker itself not activating the icemakers water valve assy to fill the maker
Hi, The first step you need to do is to turn the water off to the refrigerator so it quits making until you get it fixed. If your fridge has the control boards in each side of the freezer cabinet that controls the icemaker, then you have a failed board. If you have a standard icemaker with the metal shutoff arm then you have a failed motor module in the icemaker. You can remove the icemaker and unplug the wiring connector from it so you can leave the water on to the dispenser.

Pour about 1/2 cup of water into the icemaker . If it dumps , replace the water valve . If not , replace the icemaker . Make sure the coils are clean of dust , etc... at bottom of fridge .
If there are ice cubes setting in the icemake waiting to be dumped then the icemaker is bad. If the icemake is dry then the water valve is bad. You have one water valve with two solenoids. One works water in the door and the other sends water to the icemaker.
Yes, the short tube that goes from the back of the refrigerator to the icemaker can freeze up solid preventing any more water to pass thru. this is caused by a bad water valve that is slowly leaking water to the icemaker.
