I had the same problem with the freezer sheles being too small in my GE Profile side by side. The shelves would simply collapse down with any weight on them.
After measurng the gap, I determined that the shelves were approximately 7/16" too narrow.
The fix I did was simple, effective, and very cheap.
I bought a roll of clear flexible polyethylene tubing at Lowes for about $5.The tubing is 3/8" outer diameter, 1/4" inner diameter (see picture below).
I cut pieces to fit along the side rails of the shelf, and then sliced the tube pieces down their length with a utility knife. I wrapped the pieces around the outside rails on each side of the shelf. It took a little work, but I got the tube pieces attached.
In a few spots, I did a double wrap of tubing.
The shelves fit tightly now and can hold significant weight without collapsing. Plus, they don't look too bad.
I hope GE fixes this simple problem in the future.

Model # would be helpful, but most likely something going in with damper that controls airflow between freezer and fridge side. Also could be thermostat

HELLO Anonymous,

I think you are having a basic PROBLEM with
the idea that FREE ADVICE could actually
be valuable...

You need to make up your mind...
If "NOTHING will FREEZE"...

Then how in the world could it
"seem to DEFROST" ...??

(bull-feathers)

What you are saying is contradictory nonsense...

I can totally ASSURE YOU an 80°F or 90°F degree
ambient temperature would have very little effect
on a WORKING REFRIGERATOR...

Think Fresno, Bakersfield or Mojave
(and get over it).

I come here daily... If YOU want to get serious
about your REFRIGERATION ISSUES...
I love refrigerators... and stop by DAILY...
Get serious about your symptoms...

Buy the applicable TAYLOR thermometer
and MONITOR precisely of WHAT YOU SPEAK...

Together.. We can do this...!!

We can do this (if you wish)

If the motor is running but it's not getting cold then you may have lost coolant. Did someone clean the ice out with a knife?

Self defrost mechanism may have an issue. If it stays on too long you will have excessive temps build up in refrig as well as freezer. There is also a defrost thermostat that is supposed to turn compressor back on when temps get too high - check that out also.
