HOW TO CHANGE THE MUSTEK PVR-H140 BETTERY
It is real easy to change the battery, I have done mine a few months ago
if you remove the screws from the back top and bottom (4) and remove the case
next remove the 2 small rubber strips from each side of the hard drive, then very carefully pull the connecting ribbon off the hard drive, this can be tight so gently prise apart with a screw driver,
once the hard drive is removed you will see some earthing straps just make a note of where these are located as you will need to put them back in the right place, they simply touch the hard drive,
now you shoud see the battery (very thin in a blue plastic case) you might want to remove the rubber proctective stuff just to make it a bit easier there is a simple pull/push connector
just unplug it and replace with new battery and reverse the procedure.
Dont panic if the unit fails to switch back on as mine did when i re assembled it
it was just one of those earth straps in the wrong place.
I hope this helps,
P.S I changed the battery on a unit I bought on ebay and i had nothing to loose
if you are unsure do not attemp the repair.
To change the hard drive
Yes, No Problem The PVR-H140 is fitted with a Standard Laptop IDE Drive, though be careful not to damage the connector as it is quite delicate, if you can afford it you may want to fit one of the new solid state drives, this will have the advantage of using a lot less power so considerably increasing the battery life..
Also be aware opening the unit may invalidate your warrenty if you have one.
In my move i lost
Hi,
If this helps, you can download the manual from
HERE
as for the accessories, you'll just have to buy new ones..
Mustek PVR
Try Maplins, or a specialist electronic component supplier.
Mustek PVR-H140 shuts down when I insert some SD cards
Yes that's correct newer SD Cards use faster memory chips that are not always compatable, not just with this unit but you can have the same problem with cameras and other MP3 players as well.
The PVR-H140 is quite old now so stick to the older type cards, oh and they dont like being hot swapped, this can cause a shutdown or driver corruption, insert them before turning the unit on.
NEED DRIVERS FOR MUSTEK PVR-H140
HI,
the drivers for the unit are available at
http://www.nodevice.com/driver/_PVR-H140/get33981.html
you can use the unit as an external drive, you will need to connect the it to your computer via usb then power it up, after 30 seconds or so it should show up on "My Computer" as an extra drive.
if it doesn't show then the internal battery could be flat, though it will charge via the usb if the power is off (red light on when charging) or use the supplied power adapter.

Mustek H140
you can order a new battery from mustek in germany
I have got there email address at work i will post it here in the next couple of days
But I had the same trouble the battery would only last half an hour or so
I had to send 30 euros in cash !(due to horrific bank charges)
but went very smooth got it all sorted in about 2 weeks start to finish
now mine works fine
My mustek pvr-H140 freezing
Tje pvr-h140 basicall have 3 major components
1- 40 gb hard disk
2- battery pack similiar to the cordless phone battery packs
3- integrated panel with LCD and control buttons; usb port; power port; av in/out port.
when the unit hangs on initialize; this mean the hard disk is not responding. you can hit the recessed reset button and and power it back on. if the hard disk is OK this should clear up the issue.
if the hard disk is bad (crashed) then you need to replace the disk. Usually a fitjitsu 40GB notebook drive
also if the unit was dropped; constantly banged; etc then the cable to the hard disk to the integrated panel may be loose. The disk to cable is pinned and doesn't come loose but the other end of the cable is taped to the integrated panel and can come loose if the unit is not handled properly.
finally if the boot up files are corrupt; then you should be able to see it on the pc with the usb connection.
In this case you need to download and restore the files as discussed in the other solutions. Basically mustek has a website with all the drivers.
