SOURCE: How do I install an ink cartridge in a lexmark x2330?
if you go to there site it will tell you how to do it
SOURCE: Ink level reset button for Lexmark X2690
There really isn't. Lexmark's 'official answer' that I have seen is this:
Genuine Lexmark inks and cartridges are perfectly matched to the printing system to ensure that every document produced is of the highest possible print quality, providing long-term dependable service from your Lexmark printer. Using incompatible inks in an attempt to extend the life of a genuine Lexmark cartridge beyond its recommended usage can cause failures in several different areas of the printer. Any such damage to your printer caused by refilled ink cartridges will not be covered by your Lexmark printer Warranty, Extended Warranty or Service Agreement.
If the error message stopped you from using the refilled cartridges, you shouldn't have damaged the unit in any way.

Yes, most Lexmark cartridges as well as many other manufactures use something called 'Smart' Chips in the bottom of the ink cartridge. Usually unplugging your (about 10 seconds) printer resets the memory in the printer. Hope this helps!

I had both a number 4 and number 5 cardridge refilled, and neither was recognized nor worked in my X4690 printer. I've gone ahead and started buying cartridges directly from Lexmark. They give you one free cartridge when you set up your account, then one free one for every 5 empty cartridges that you return to them.
