Hi.. I have a Lexmark X6180 printer and it stopped printing. The paper goes through, and it sounds like it's printing but the paper is blank when it comes out of the printer. There's plenty of black ink. This happens when I try to print a document and also when I try to copy something. I can't figure out how to run a self test.

It could be that your cartridge needs cleaning. On your computer, go to Start menu > Programs / All Programs > Lexmark 6100 Series > Lexmark Solution Center. Go to Maintenance tab > select Clean to fix horizontal streaks. Your printer will then print a page forcing ink through the cartridge nozzles and clean them. Try to print your document again and determine if the problem is fixed.

Sounds like it's printing, ejects the paper and it is blank. Help!!

Try the steps below to fix the problem:
  1. Remove the sheets of paper from the feeder.
  2. Open the printer cover and remove the cartridges.
  3. Close the printer cover.
  4. Re-brick your printer. Pull out the power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds.
  5. When the printer turns on, re-insert both cartridges.
  6. Close the printer.
  7. Load some paper in the feeder.
  8. Try to print again to verify that the problem is fixed.
Let me know how it goes.

I loaded my Lexmark X6180 printer with the software, and the installation went fine to the finish. But I get a communications error message "cannot communicate." What shall I do to fix?

What is the operating system installed on your computer?

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer. Reboot your pc. Unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer. Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection.

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

1. Disconnect the printer from your computer.

2. Rebrick (pull out power supply, black box where the power cord is plugged in at the back of the printer, and put it back after 30 seconds).

2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.

3. Delete the Lexmark print object.

4. Reboot your pc.

5. When your pc turns on, reconnect the printer.

6. Wait until your pc fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list again, then try to print again.

You may also try to update your printer driver by visiting the Lexmark website.

Most likely cause is the ink cartridge needs replacing / refilling. Did it stop printing part way through a page?

Lexmark 6250

Sounds like an print cartridge problem. On your computer go to "start" "programs" "Lexmark all-in-one" and use the troubleshooting guide to make sure your cartridges are installed correctly, how to clean/refresh them, and how to clear the nozzles. Hope this helps.

No ink coming from cartridges.

Sounds like maybe the nozzles are clogged up. Try using the printer maintenance utility to "Clean Nozzles". I think for most Lexmark printers it is call the "Lexmark Solution Center" in your Windows Start Menu. If that doesn't work, try maybe wiping the cartridge with a damp paper towel at the place where the ink comes out.
