Make sure the red and white plugs on one end of the audio cable are connected to the "Audio Out" on the TV and the corresponding plugs on the other end are going to one of the line-level inputs on the stereo (Aux, TV, or even Tape In or CD will work). You didn't give you model number so I can't say for sure, but your TV may have a menu item under Audio or Sound that lets you select TV speakers only, External speakers only, or both. If it's set to TV speakers only, the Audio out will be silent. You can either search your setup menus for this or check your owner's manual.

Hi ,

have you tried using a HDMI cable to hookup to your stereo?

that would be a better option.
