That is definitely a defective unit. Assuming you have a warranty, please return it and exchange for a new one.
Good luck!

NOTICE: When you perform a hard reset, you lose all the data stored in your
device memory, and any programs that you installed on your device.

    Perform a hard reset if:
    • You want to delete all the data stored in your device memory.
    • You forget your password and need to clear it.
    • Your device is experiencing severe operational problems.

NOTICE: It is strongly recommended that you back up your data before you perform a hard reset. See ActiveSync Help on your computer for more information.

    To perform a hard reset:
1 Press and hold the power button.
2 Using the reset stylus, hold the reset button for about 2 seconds.
3 Follow the instructions on the screen.

This can be a bad battery since you charge it overnight , because overcharging a unit like this may cause damage to the battery itself, so if you try to change the battery that will be better...

Hope that helps...........

  • Anonymous Aug 14, 2008

That can mean about a problem with the battery , that your phone cannot get enough power from the battery, if you want try to plug the phone to a power outlet and try to turn it on if it will be ok..

Unplug the unit from the cahrger, to remove the battery then put it back in, and then try to turn it on. this is just a work around.

  • Anonymous Aug 14, 2008

i agree with marked, if in case that you see the battery a little swollen, you may need to get it replaced before it causes more damage to the unit.

SOURCE: Dell Axim X50 PDA won't turn on

try a hard reset

Dell Axim x50 / x50v / x51 / x51v:

Make sure the device is on before performing hard reset. To hard reset, press and hold the power button and press in on the reset button (reset hole) on the back of the unit for about 2-3 seconds. Release both buttons and you will see a confirmation screen asking you if you would like to clear all data in memory. To do so press the Contacts button. To cancel press the Mail button.

IT may be that the mainboard is faulty and would need to be replaced.

Had the same problem. Did some research and fixed the problem by performing a "soft reset". Tap the reset indentation on the back once quickly. Do NOT hold it in or you will lose all saved data. Mine's working fine now.
