Brother HL 2140 Laser Printer Logo

Brother 2140 Keeps misfeeding the paper. The printer was working properly and then ran out of paper. I replaced the paper with the same that is was using in the paper tray and it has jammed ever since. When printing a single page the printer will grab multiple pages. The first page will come exactly half way out and then stop. When I clear this page out there is another stuck in the toner/drum area. I have cleaned the separator pad, and rollers. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the most current drivers from brother. I have updated the most current firmware. I replaced the printer cable. The only way it will print properly is to switch the settings to thick paper. However it is not thick paper and it prints much slower. I want to understand the root of this problem.

Sounds to me like the toner - that is the toner cartridge has the wrong toner in it. The drum should be OK - clean it up first and then use a genuine toner cartridge OR you can buy our refill kit on eBay - search for Brother HL2040 - michellem6123

SOURCE: Brother 5250 DN Paper Jams

You problem is actually in the pick-up roller and separation pad areas. the paper is delaying and not making it through to the next check point in the machine fast enough.

Take it by your closest Brother Service Outlet. They're in the phonebook under "Computer Service & Repair". It's a cheap fix but requires parts.

2nd
Use good paper. Paying a little more for paper will save you a lot over time in repairs and premature toner and drum failures. Brother printers are really finicky about paper quality. Recommend "HP Office" brand paper as a minimum. It's a known good paper for general everyday printing and won't break the bank.

We were having a lot of print quality problems, similar to what you describe. We replaced the drum and it worked fine.

SOURCE: Brother 2140 toner light on, won't even try to print.

To get every bit of toner powder out of the cartridge, first remove the toner unit from the drum assembly. Second, find the little circular window on the right-side of the toner cartridge. Third, place a piece of black electrical tape over the clear window, cannot be clear tape. Fourth, re-install the toner cartridge into the drum assembly. Last, put the complete unit back into your printer. This worked for me.

What is causing misfeeding?

Either the paper is slipping and not reaching the sensors at the right time. or a sensor flag is broken/missing/out/stuck and the device stops the paper thinking there's a jam. Clean all the paper feed rollers with a clean lint-free towel and water only. See if that will improve the grip of the rollers. If they appear shiny, replace the rollers. They are too worn out to continue working properly.

How to load evelopes HL 2140

Brother Hl 2140 Printing on thick paper, labels and envelopes 2
When the back output tray is pulled down, the printer has a straight paper path from the manual feed slot through to the back of the printer. Use this paper feed and output method when you want to print on thick paper, labels or envelopes.

Open the back cover

Open the manual feed slot cover.

Using both hands, slide the manual feed slot paper guides to the width of the paper that you are going to use.

Using both hands, put one piece of paper or one envelope in the manual feed slot until the front edge of the paper or envelope touches the paper feed roller. When you feel the machine pull in the paper, let go.

• Put the paper into the manual feed slot with the side to be printed face up.
• Make sure that the paper or envelope is straight and in the proper position on the manual feed slot. If it is not, the paper or the envelope may not be fed properly, resulting in a skewed printout or a paper jam.
• Do not put more than one piece of paper in the manual feed slot at any one time, as it may cause a jam.
• If you put any Media (paper, envelope and so on) in the manual feed slot before the printer is in the Ready state, the media may be ejected without being printed on.

Can i set the Brother HL-2140 to print double sided. I cannot find it ?

The Brother HL-2140 does not include duplex printing. The only option for double sided printing with this model is to print odd numbered pages, then manually replace the paper into the tray and print the even numbered pages in a second set.

How could i fix paper jam on Brother HL-2140 Laser Printer?

One of the main causes for paper jams is the presence of dirt, dust, or debris in your toner cartridge. The paper coming into the cartridge would get stuck. So clean your printer regularly. Remove the dust from the printer. Also find out whether any jams occurred in the sensor hole in the upper part of the rotating drum. Do not touch the roller while cleaning. If the oil in your body gets into the roller, the printing media cannot roll over it properly and you can't get rid of the printer problem.

I changed the toner of my brother HL 2030, but since then the paper keeps on misfeeding: each sheet is blocked at the entry of the DR2000-unit, manual feed is working properly ... but nothing seems to have...

there could be two things that my cause this problem: 1.The ***** up roller is durty and needs cleaning(remove the cassete and look at the botton of the printer and you will see a rubber roller.clean it with cotton). 2.remove the rum unit and put it bag with bigger force so it will get nicly in the wright path.

Manual paper feed works but not automatic feed.

I've been told labels have to be manually fed on that printer.

Hl-2140 noises

For a possible fix to the Brother HL-2140 squeal/squeak/noise problem open the printer at the other side from the paper tray and toner cartridge door. You should see a little black roller rod along with some white wheels.

The noise may be coming from the contact between the wheels/rollers which pull paper toward the output tray on top after it has been printed.

Check and clean/wipe the wheels and black rod, especially in the center area. Hopefully the noise will now be reduced/eliminated.

Cheers, Stephen
