Problem with scanning both from the auto feeder and from scanner glass

When ever I tried to scan a document into the computer from my hp 7410 scanner glass and / or automatic feeder, I always get an error message that says " Original were removed from the input tray of the automatic feed. Please replace the originals and click New scan. To scan from the scanner glass instead, make sure that all items are removed from the automatic feeder. Then close the HP scanning software and start again. Ok "
The above statement shows up, even when document is on the automatic glass. I tried scanning 8 pages of document into the computer through the automatic feeder, the pages began scaning and the number of documents scanned increased with each page scanned page up until after the 8 page, when the scanner tried to scan the 9th page that was not there, there was also a grinding noise, after which the above error message occured. I have checked to see if there is any paper jammed in automatic feeder but none was seen after lifting the auto feeder cover

My main concern is getting the scanner to scan from the scanner glass into the computer. How can i get the scanner to scan. The scanner light and carriage move across the scanner glass, but at the end, this error message show on my computer scream, "(Original were removed from the input tray of the automatic feed. Please replace the originals and click New scan. To scan from the scanner glass instead, make sure that all items are removed from the automatic feeder. Then close the HP scanning software and start again. Ok "}'' This massage seems to suggest that there might be something in the auto feeder, but nothing is visible. what else could be done

This is what HP has to say

This document applies to all HP product models. Issue When the product is turned on or in the middle of an operation, an unexpected noise occurs, such as clicking, thumping, or grinding. Blinking lights and error codes might accompany the noise. NOTE: Noises can be caused by a number of things. This document focuses on isolating, identifying, and resolving known causes of product noises. Solution Noises are subjective and can be difficult to describe. Some noises are normal to the operation of the product and might include the following:

  • The product might make humming and buzzing sounds as the carriage moves around on the right or left side of the product while cleaning the ink cartridges. This is normal when a product is turned on, before and after printing, after a product has been on standby for some time, after replacing an ink cartridge, or in the middle of a large print job.
  • During a print job, the movement of rollers, gears, carriage, and paper (paper feed and ejection) creates some noise.
  • During a print job, if the product is printing in the fast or draft mode, the noise level might be higher than when using the best or normal mode.
  • At the end of the print job, a louder clicking noise occurs as the paper is pushed to the output tray.
  • At the end of a print job, a noise emanates from the left or right side of the product as the pens are capped. The product might try to do this a couple of times.
Abnormal noises are a symptom of a problem. The most accurate way to determine the origin of a noise is to isolate where it comes from and when it occurs. Use the following steps to try to isolate the noise issue. NOTE: Error codes might indicate the source of the noise. Make a note of any error code or blinking lights that appear. Step one: Check for loose or broken parts
  1. Raise the cover of the product.
  1. Check inside for loose or broken parts.
  2. If there are broken parts, the product needs to be serviced.
  3. Step two: Make sure that accessories are installed correctly
  1. Press the power button (Problem with scanning both from the auto feeder an - c00636182.gif ) to turn off the product.
  2. Remove the power cord from the back of the product and unplug the power cord from the power source.
  3. Check any accessories (duplexer, envelope feeder, automatic document feeder (ADF)) to make sure each is installed and seated correctly.
  4. Plug the power cord into the back of the product and plug the power cord back into the power source.
  5. Press the power bProblem with scanning both from the auto feeder an - c00636182.gifrc="/uploads/images/c00636182.gif" alt="c00636182.gif" class="h_mi" /> ) to turn on the product.
  6. If the noise still persists, remove each accessory one at a time to try to determine if the noise is associated with a single accessory or a combination.
  7. If the noise stops when a specific accessory is removed, that part might need to be replaced. If possible, exchange the accessory with a known good one or a new one to determine if the noise is associated with the accessory. NOTE: If the product is fully functional with the accessory in place, the noise might be normal.
  8. If the noise persists, proceed to the next step.
Step three: Check connection with computer Turn off the computer to determine if the computer is the source of the noise. If the noise persists, proceed to Step four. Cannot scan legal size document with windows 7

Of course it can't . Since the maximum scan size is 8.5 x 11.7 inches it cannot scan a document that is 8.5 x 14 inches which is legal size. To do legal size you must either have a large-format scanner so the glass size is large enough, or have an all-in-one that has an auto-feeder. Those use a different scan bar from the feeder and can do legal documents.

When I scan to printer the page comes out with short lines down 1 side

If your printer has both an automatic document feeder and a flat glass portion for scanning, try scanning from both. If you only get the lines on one of the scans then that is where your problem is. Most common issue on scanners is a liquid paper, bit of paper, glue, etc on the Automatic document feeder glass. Clean the glass and you should be fine.

How do i use my scanner

If you have loaded the software for the printer/scanner.
Go to your HP director Icon and start this program.
you should see your Scanner / printer listed under Select device.

You can place a document/picture in the document feeder on top.
OR you can place the document / picture directly on the glass.
(Lift the hinged lid to reveal the scanner glass)
Don't worry the document feeder uses a different scan wand.
Now document / picture in place select the Scan document or Scan picture icon from the HP director. Depending on which type of document you have placed in / on the scanner.

Scanner should warm up then scan presenting you with a preview image. From here you can decide what and where to go.

You are not limited to just the HP director.
Other applications can use the twain source to activate your scanner software. This will transfer the scan to your application.
Irfanview is a prime example. Image viewer that will let you "Acquire" and image from you scanner. Be sure to select the twain source.

    Good luck!

Red/yellow line down left side of document when using feeder

the solution to this issue is cleaning the scanner glass below the automatic document feeder(mind you its not the scan bed that you normally use while copying) .you will get the ADF scnner glass once you lift the ADF door, you will see a 1 inch wide scanner glass.that is what you need to clean.

HP 7410 streaks on scanning and copying

First you need to determine if it's doing from both the  top and the glass.

1-assuming you are using the feeder to fax, copy or scan (the part that automatically picks up the paper) it comes out with a streak. Make a copy putting the paper on the glass and look at the copy. Does it have the streak?

2-lift the top and look to the left there should be a small 1inch glass, this is where it makes the copies from the feeder, is there a dot or white out or is the glass dirty? that's your streak, the paper is moving to make the copy,so the dot now looks like a line as opposed to making a copy on the glass it just sits there so a dot will stay a dot.

2- Clean with water or alcohol.
