There could be many issues with your cassette. When you put the tape in and press play, due you hear a mechanism turning and the heads move up into the tape cassette? Parts and service information, are long discontinued for Aiwa, as they are out of business. Please visit my website at audioserviceclinic.com for more information. Thank you.
I think I can help you with the tape part, but as for the CD, that's a whole different story.
First, you should reset the unit by holding down the stop button (clear), and then pressing the power button. Everything stored in memory after purchase is cleared, including the radio stations, clock, etc.
Check if deck 1 is now playing.
I had a similar problem with my AIWA NSX-AJ310, and after some digging up, I realised that the belts were busted. They're not hard to replace though, unless you don't trust yourself to replace them. If you don't, let a qualified technician see about that for you.
The CD player in my system has retired also, so, we're in the same boat as with regard to that issue!!
I thought that I had the same problem. I then discovered that when I put 3 CD's in it started up on it's own. If you push the demo button you can see how it's supposed to light up the number of tracks in a square on the right of the display. It wasn't doing that until I put in all 3. Then it started up and I was able to use the disc 1, 2 & 3 buttons to change from 1 CD to the next and I used the Up and Down buttons to change songs and the play button above the tape deck is multi-functional. Hope this helps.
Well, for the CSD-ED27 the sleep works like this: 1. press STOP/MEMORY and then also 2. press PREPEAT/FM MODE/OSC 3. your display will show 10 4. use the tuner - & + to good from OFF-90 mins
As to you CD player not playing: it is sounds like the spinner might be not spin completely flat to the optical reader. This happen with my portable CD player, however at this time I do not have a fix for you. Good luck though.
