I have a 2007 Toyota Tacoma 2wheel drive and I lost the keys and steering wheel is locked how do I remove steering wheel and replace ignition

How to Replace the Ignition in a Toyota Truck

The two primary components in a Toyota truck's ignition system are the actual ignition switch and the lock cylinder, which work with the ignition key. On most current models of the Tundra and Sequoia, you won't need to completely disassemble the entire steering panelicon1.png to access the switch and cylinder. Keep in mind that the exact procedure can vary depending on the year and model of your Toyota truck.

Instructions
    • 1 Disconnect the truck battery's negative cable by loosening the cable's clamp nut and detaching the cable from the battery post. Set the cable aside somewhere where it can't accidentally touch the battery terminal.
    • 2 Remove the under-dash panel on the left side of the truck by removing its four retaining screws and pulling it off. Detach the hood release cable by lifting the lever, removing the screws and disengaging the cable from the lever handle.
3.
  • Remove the air duct that is below the steering columnicon1.png to access the ignition switch. Unplug the electrical connectors at the rear of the switch, remove the mounting screws with a screwdriver and detach the switch from the lock cylinder housing.
  • 4 Detach the illumination ring by pulling out the plastic pin on the side. Turn the lock cylinder into the Accessory position with the key and insert a small screwdriver into the hole at the bottom of the ignition switch casting. Press the release bottom with this screwdriver as you pull the lock cylinder straight out.
  • 5 Insert the replacement lock cylinder with its own key into the ignition switch casing. Make sure you insert it so the cylinder is in the Accessory position. Replace the illumination ring with its pin.
  • 6 Mount the replacement ignition switch on the housing with its mounting screws and connecticon1.png it to the electrical connectors.
  • 7 Re-install all other components--the air duct, under-dash panel and battery cable--in the reverse order of removal.

How do I remove the ignition tumbler on a 1992 Explorer?

    1. 1 Open the hood. Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Peel back the insulator if equipped, and use the wrench to loosen the clamp nut on the negative cable.
    2. 2 Remove the covers on the steering column. Use the screwdriver to pull out the screws, and detach the knee bolster below the steering column. Pull out the screws and detach the lower cover to find the screw for the upper cover; then remove the upper cover in the same manner.
    3. 3 Remove the multifunction switch by pulling out its retaining screw and pushing on the release lever to detach the switch from the column.
    4. 4 Disconnect the ignition switch's electrical connector. Then detach the switch from the steering column by pressing on its clips to release the tabs.
    5. 5 Install the new ignition switch in the old one's place, making sure the locking tabs activate and the spring under the switch is in position on the column's locking rod. Connect the electrical connector.
    6. 6 Reconnect all other parts on the steering column in reverse order of removal. Replace the negative battery cable.
    7. 7 Insert your ignition key to test for proper operation in all three positions: "Lock," "Accessory" and "Start."

    3. Carefully lift the lock tab to detach the temperature cable from the control door shaft.
    4. Note the cable routing, then remove the cable from the vehicle.

    To install:

    1. Route the cable behind the instrument panel, then engage the alignment pins and attach the temperature cable to the control door shaft until the lock tab snaps into the groove on the shaft.
    2. If necessary, install the instrument panel.
    3. Engage the cable end with the cable actuator on the control assembly. Install the control assembly in the instrument panel.
    4. Connect the negative battery cable and check the system for proper operation.
    1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
    2. Remove the snap-in trim molding in the center console to expose the four control assembly attaching screws. Remove the four screws attaching the control assembly to the instrument panel.
