You don't provide a model number, so I recommend you search retrevo.com yourself.

Most manuals don't help much on disc errors.

Wii Disk Error

Unable to Read the Disc" Error, or Disc Not Recognized (Will Not Play Game Discs) Situation:
  • The Wii console will not play game discs (disc is not recognized)
  • System displays either error message "Unable to read disc" or "Disc could not be read"

Important!
  • If this problem happens very infrequently, it is normal and does not indicate a problem. A Wii Lens Cleaning Kit can be purchased to help keep the lens clean and prevent the situation from worsening over time.

  • Wii Game Discs are region locked, and can only be played on hardware from the same country where the game was released. (A European game cannot be played on a North American system, for example.)

What To Do:
  • The Wii console is only compatible with Wii and GameCube discs. It is not compatible with DVDs or discs made for other home consoles. Verify that the disc you are inserting is compatible with the Wii system.

  • An error message may display if the disc is ejected during play. Return to the HOME Menu before changing discs.

  • Verify that the console is placed correctly.

    • If the Wii console is lying flat, the game disc slot should be above all three buttons and the SD Card slot.

    • If the Wii console is standing vertically, the power button should be on the top and the console should be in the stand. Note: Only Wii consoles with model number RVL-001 are intended to be placed vertically. (Learn more)

  • Verify that the disc is being inserted properly.

    • If the console is placed horizontally, the disc label will face upwards.

    • If the console is placed vertically, the disc label will face to the right.

  • Check the non-printed side of the game disc for dirt or severe damage (such as scratches or cracks).

    • If the disc is dirty, try cleaning the game disc. (How to)

    • If the disc is damaged or scratched, it will need to be replaced. Please click here for replacement options.

  • If the problem occurs with only one game disc, there may be a problem specific to that game. Click here to check our list of specific game issues.

  • Make sure only licensed accessories are being used. Unlicensed products do not undergo Nintendo's testing and evaluation process. They may not work at all with our game systems, and they may have compatibility problems with certain games or accessories.

Some DVDs are region free and will play regardless what region the player is configured to.
To make your DVD player region free so you can play DVDs from any region, please click on this link and follow my instructions :-

I am unable to play dvds. The system starts with

Try other discs to see if the system is reading anything.

If it isn't then take a can of air and blow some into the drive to make sure there is no dust or dirt on the laser.

After that, try again and if the system isn't reading discs still then that means that the laser is bad. You can either replace the laser or the dvd drive itself.

Disc error message when load DVD

Are you loading to play or to record?
Commercial DVDs should play.
DVDs for recording may not be recognized by your drive. First make sure that the disc is blank. You must insert a blank disc of the proper format: DVD-R or RW, DVD+R or RW. Even with the proper format, some brands may not behave the same way as other brands.

Denon 3910 won't load some dvds/cds and vibrates while trying.."disc error"!

I have the Denon 2900 (about 4 years of use) and until recently, suffered from the same (growing) problem. CD's were very difficult to start/read. I recently found advice which I tried and was succesful with. It was manually cleaning the laserlens. I took away the outer housing by unscrewing all off the on top (6), side (4) and the back (2) bolts. After that I took out the top plate of the laserunit which took two very little screws taking out. Now you are looking at the cd-tray with the lens. Take a very soft and clean cloth and moisten it a little bit with clean water (be very carefull with the moistening, don't allow any waterdrop to come out of the cloth into the laserlens while cleaning! Carefully clean the lens and dry it with a dry part of the same cloth. Replace the top plate and the outer housing and the player will recognize the discs like it's new again. Good luck!
