I can't find my CD to set up the router. I have cable internet modem set up and working fine. I can't locate free driver download without getting stuck in a "free" service that charges for registration. Where can I find absolutely free drivers?

Well if they are trying to sell u a driver through a pay registration then its a scam because u dont have to download drivers on ur computer to use a router just unhook the ethernet cable from ur computer and plug it into the input port on the router and plug it up

  1. Begin setup of your Netgear Wireless Router by first reading the instructions in the included manual, and following their guidelines for plugging in and initializing the access point. The first few steps in this guide should coincide with the information found in the manual, however we will follow up with important information on how to secure your wireless access point.
  2. After powering up the router, use an ethernet cable to connect your computer to one of the ports on it marked 1 through 4. Next open a web browser window on the connected computer and type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar and press enter. This will take you to the Netgear Smart Wizard welcome page, click OK to begin the configuration. The router will attempt to detect the type of connection you have and the next message you receive should be Dynamic IP (DHCP) Detected, click Next once you see this.
  3. Next you will enable the wireless capability of your router. In the dropdown box for the region where you are located select United States from the list. On this screen you should also change the Wireless Network Name (SSID) from its default value to something unique so that your Base Station will not be confused with another. Click Next.
  4. You should now see a message confirming that your connection is working and wireless is enabled. However, your are not secured yet. Read the notes and click Done. Then direct your browser to http://www.routerlogin.net to continue the configuration. A window will pop up prompting you for your login and password, enter admin for the username and password for the password, then click OK.

I found the below information at Netgears website http://kb.netgear.com/app/products/model/a_id/2590.

I hope it is helpful,

Lost or Unable to use Router Configuration CD NETGEAR does not replace lost or broken CDs because the Smart Wizard installation and configuration utility on the CD is already built into your router management software. There is no need to download anything to replace the CD - everything you need is in your router. This is true even if:

  • the CD that shipped with the router has been lost or cannot be read, or
  • errors occur when running the configuration program, or
  • the router is not connected to a computer using the Windows operating system.

To access the Smart Wizard installation and configuration program on your router:
  1. Connect your router to a computer by plugging one end of an Ethernet Cable into any of the four LAN ports on the back of your router.
  2. Log in to your NETGEAR router by browsing to http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com. Enter the username (admin) and password. By default, the password is password or 1234 unless it has already been changed.
  3. To install your router, simply click on the "Setup Wizard" link at the top of the left-hand navigation menu once you are logged into your router.
A video walk-through of installing and configuring your router using the Smart Wizard is available at http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/12873.

Good day sir madam pls help me for my d-link router model DI-704P i need the driver...where can i get my driver through internet?

Are you trying to set up router ?
You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Dlink wireless router

See if you can log into the router...in your browser type:

http://192.168.0.1

Username: admin
leave the password field blank.

there should be a setup button (I don't know if the setup program is in the router, but from the instruction manual, it should be).

Most of the settings should be the default settings, and there is some help listed. If your internet is working right now, it's probably not the router. You might try dlink.com to get the software that originally came on the CD.

My WRT55AG Linksys Router does not work. I tried doing the setup (from the CD) again. After Step 7 (cables now all hooked up) I'm suppose to get a password screen to key in "admin". Instead the lights...

Router setup
If you are using the cd that comes with the router, that is the problem. You do not have to use the cd. Go to the control panel and un-install the program that the cd installed. then:
Shutdown your PC. Unplug the power from the router and the cable modem.
Wait 30 sec. then plug in the power to the cable modem, wait 30 sec. then plug the power to the router. Wait till you have "Internet" light then restart your PC. The PC should pick up an IP address and you should be able to get on-line. This is if you have a cable service provider. If you have DSL, the router needs to be configured with PPPOe.

Using your web browser go to URL address http://192.168.1.1. You will then be prompted to login to your router. A log-in screen asking for the password will automatically appear. At this time enter the default password “admin”, in lower case letters into the password field. The username field may be left blank at this time. (Note: both the default username and default password are set to “admin” on some of the newer Linksys router models).

Is there a way to install a router without the disc?

This router should be a plug and play qualified device. The software that usually comes with it allows you to access the settings.

You can get that information at www.linksys.com/support

You can also try Network Magic for free at http://www.purenetworks.com/nmlp/home-networking.php?gclid=CPSW0auz6p0CFcNx5Qod3SHsKg&src=google&kw=network+magic+download
