I bought a replacement cable for my Shure Beta 58A microphone and am getting no sound from my amp. I bought the cable from a local music store and it is XLR to 1/4". Any idea why it isn't working?
I scored an old beta 58 but the 3 pin connector was missing. i bought another one but i don't know which wires to connect where. plus there are only two wires, is that right? I'm a bit of a noob but I like to try things myself :)
Some cables are wired different than others. I would check the continuity of the cable with an ohmeter and compare the wiring of the 2 mikes to see if they are the same.
It could be the wiring in the 1/4" jack in your amp. Check the metal contact plates on the 1/4" jack in your amp and see if they are getting contact to the jack. Sometime they get bent.
If the XLR end of the cable can be serviced, check the ground connection to the cable and see if its good.
