SOURCE: my Jensen spx 17 sub makes a loud thump on turn

all the spx17 will do that, no it should not damage the driver.

We usually suggest to customers that it is best to leave the Sub in the Auto switch position as this will allow it to automatically switch on and off without the loud pop.

I have a JBL SUBWOOFER MODELPSW-1200 that hums as soon as it is plugged into the wall plug, there are no speaker wires connected to the subwoofer!

The hum might be caused by the main semi-conductor device that produces the sound. Of course a capacitor might look normal and still cause the problem. The only way is to replace the big ones in the unit.

Why is my Jensen SPX-17 home entertainment subwoofer only putting out about 10% functioning base power volume level and loudness?

Gary, If you have the subwoofer open, what did you keep from measuring the voltage of both power supplies? And while measuring, why not put a load on both, and see what current they can handle?
When the error moves with one component (power supply) the error must be there. Without a multimeter, (I have several, but I'm not close to the power supplies) you can't tell if the power supply is working to full performance. So start there.
Just try to find out, if a part of the rectifier is defect (one diode) It won't be possible to point out what is wrong, if you can't measure on the device yourself.
Sorry.

Does any other speakers work through the channels you are putting the subwoofer through? Reason i ask is could there be a fault with the channel you are using i.e AUX? is your subwoofer connected with Aux cables or is it a speaker cable? If aux cable is there a slight break in the cable?

I can't get any sound out of my jensen spx-17 subwoofer

Pull the woofer out of the box and make sure it's hooked up on the inside, if so you will want to test the ohms reading off of your subwoofers terminals to make sure it's reading either 2 or 4 ohm which ever it's rated at to eliminate the woofer as the problem. After all of those have been done check your amps out put for power to the woofer and make sure your rca cables are hooked up correctly and have power.

I cant seem to get the sub woofer to put out sound

Hello, are you using the subwoofer output on the receiver?
Did you turn the subwoofer on within the receivers onscreen setup?
this requires going into the menu selecting speaker setup and telling the receiver that you do have a subwoofer connected.

if you have done all this I would try to fist make sure the sub is working. easiest way is to plug a source directly into the rca inputs of the sub and see if it powers up. A CD player or even an ipod with the right connector will work.

if the sub powers on and produces sound then the issue is in the receiver and you will have to play with the setup. Its possible that the output jack is bad, I've had that happen when I pulled on an RCA cable and pulled out the socket but that's rare.

Is the subwoofer set to turn on automaticly when a signal is sensed?
does it have a switch to select high or low level inputs (speaker jacks or RCA connections on the back)

hope that helps
remember start by making sure the sub works then figure out why the receiver isn't sending a signal.
