Loud humming noise from subwoofer
if it is a powered sub you should lift the ground. you can do this by adding a three prong to two prong adapter. you know, like when you go to plug something in and the cord your plugging in has three prongs and the outlet your plugging in to only has two. it doesn't have the hole for the ground so you go get a little grey adapter that has three holes on one side and two prongs or tabs on the other.if that doesn't take the hum out (actually, is keeping the hum from getting in) you have a problem with the amplifier.
Both resistors are: 1/4w 100 ohm with 5% tolerance (brown, black, brown & gold colors). Best to use the "Metal Film" type because they're more durable than the "Carbon Film" type.
Based on your description, the internal power supply of the subwoofer amplifier would be suspect. Often it would be a blistered or leaking filter capacitor. It is a relatively easy/inexpensive repair.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.
The subwoofer JHT525 is only making a BOO loud sound
I had this problem, too, and ended up throwing away the subwoofer. The reason in my case was the amplifier had a blown resistor. I could clearly see the burn marks and the broken resistor. I could have fixed it, but the subwoofer is 9 years old.
To find this, I unscrewed all of the bigger screws on the back except the two with the "ring" around the screw head. I then unscrewed all of the small screws. The amplifier/controller will come apart. Disconnect the speaker from the amp and then open the amplifier itself. In the "box" you will see a metal bracket, which was where the burnt resistor is.
Hope this helps.
Sounds like your connection is bad on the wiring to the Subwoofer. Try rewiring the connection with new wire.
I lost the installation manual on JHT525.
plug your low input into the subwoofer output of your reciever.that should get the sub working then you have to run speaker wire from your speaker outputs on your reciever into your sub in the top row of inputs then the outputs on the back of sub(the bottom row of speaker hookups go out to your speakers....my email is [email protected]
if you still cant get it i can talk you through it on there or ill give you my instant messenger name is you still have problems good luck,b
