When printing in color I am getting a half inchwhite space the lenght of the paper, in the same place each time. When i print in just magenta I get a oink line, when I print in just yellow I get a white line and when I print just cyan, I get no line. So this leads me to believe that there is something amiss with the yellow drum. I am not getting any yellow drum life messages and there is no debris on the drum. This started quite suddenly. Recommended that you have a tech come out and look at it might have a bad LED assy. for the Magenta Image unit. All other color print OK? Can you print gradation test pattern for each color in service mode? Meter count, details, stop 00 stop 01 Test Output Gradation pattern select magenta. If you open the side cover after printing a document with the color magenta try to catch a print of paper do you see the color magenta on the transfer belt if yes the drum is ok could be the transfer belt magenta 1st transfer roller on the belt replace the belt assy.

You need to specify the paper type when the print dialog box appears. Heavy glossy paper needs to spend more time in the fuser so that the toner is fixed.

Worn print head. And for what they charge for a stinking print head you can get a new printer for less with a warranty to boot!

First run the CLEAN HEADS and see if that helps. If you don't use your printer at least once a week the Print Heads get dried out and will not allow the ink to pass through to the paper.
Go to control Panel and click on Printess. Then when the window comes up, CLICK on Properties TAB and then in the next window, CLICK on CLEANING.
You may have to replace your PRINT HEAD if that doesn't work.

Are you using Name brand ,new ink cartridges?
Take the color cartridges out and make sure you removed the tape from the bottom of those cartridges. if done already take a wet paper towel and squeeze out the excess water, then lay the damp paper towel folded in half on a flat surface.
Then set the colored in cartridges one at a time with the ink side pressing against the damp paper towel for about 3 min. after 3 min you should see the ink drain on to the paper towel if so then replace the cartridge back into the printer and that should solve your problem.

I assume you're using photo paper.

Go to File/Print. Click Properties. Click Media Type and chose the photo paper you are using, whether it's Photo Paper Pro or whatever. If you're printing using Plain paper and you have photo paper in the printer, you'll get the stripes.

yep, print head needs proper clean, here it is.
OK, Canon will hate me for posting this.

1. Remove ink cartridges
2. Remove print head
3. go to sink or tub (stainless steel, not plastic type), pick up a roll of paper towel on the way.
4. Fold several layers of paper towel and place on flat surface.
5. Run hot water until HOT!
6. Turn hot water back to a dribble.
7. Run the dribbling hot water through print head, be careful not to wet the gold contacts.
8.When water running through print head is clear, place print head on paper towel.
9. Repeat number 7 and 8 until no colour shows on paper towel.
10. Gently DAB print head (DO NOT WIPE) inside and out with dry paper towel until dry.
11. I normally replace print head after drying, but you may wish to let it air dry overnight.
12. Replace print head in printer and install cartridges
13. Start printing.

I do this to all 4 of my Canon printers every 6 months or so.

If any colour fails to print after this process it means your print head probably needs replacing.

IT IS POSSABLE THAT THE PRINT HEAD ARE DIRTY THEY HAHVE MATCHING BOARDS TO THE TONER CARTRIDGE BOARDS UNPLUG THE MACHINE AND CLEAN THE PRINT HEAD WITH ALCOHOL IF IT DOESN'T WORK THE BOARDS HAVE FAILED
