No image through view finder or LCD

I haven't used my dsc717 for a few months, last week I switched it on only to find no picture !! It plays back pics stored on memory stick ok.

When the camera is turned on the view finder goes blank or a series of white
bands flashes intermittently however, the date, time,Spd, and all of data will show. The camera will play back old images just fine. I've changed out the
battery and have switched out several cards and have gone through all of
trouble shooting procedures in the manual. Also, I've set everything back to
the default settings.

No picture on screen when switched on

You have not given enough information. Are you trying to see
recorded photos or expecting to see the image from the lens?
You normally have an option to either use the view finder OR the
LCD display. It usually defaults to the view finder and you must activate the LCD with a button.

Canon XSi not powering up

if it has a view finder make sure in the settings that the image is set to show up on the LCD screen also make sure the batteries have a FULL charge which means at least 8 hours of uninterrupted charging before use.

My guess is that with most nice digi cams it is set to not show the image in the LCD viewfinder but rather the actual real time with your eye view finder. look around the menu if you can and see what you can change as far as view finding and if i didn't help please specify the problem a little more and i will be glad to do whatever i can to help.

SCREEN AND VIEW FINDER BLANK

Is the battery dead? Try taking it out and charging it, then put it back into the camera.

Also, you can try using another battery of the same type.

Here is the ccd advisory for the Nikon:
http://www.nikonusa.com/email_images/nikonusa/service_advisory/coolpix.html

The Sony may have the same problem, Search on the Internet for key words:
Sony DSC717 ccd advisory. This camera was made in the time when the ccds had a problem (1999 to 2002).
You may want to call Sony for this one.
Sony made the ccds for many brands including Canon, Nikon and many others.

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Sony should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following link for more info:

Powershot S1 IS trouble shooting in images of lcd monitor

Try playing back pictures you know were captured properly ( either with another properly working camera or with your camera before the problem with quality has appeared ). If the image is ok in playback but 'noisy' in capture mode then the CCD sensor is faulty /on its way out. Ask Canon if they repair CCD faults on this model free of charge.

Split screen and blurred vertical lines in view finder and LCD

Elakkis, I am sorry you are having a problem with your JVC camcorder. Your camera more than likely has a defective CCD imager which is being replaced by JVC factory service at no charge because of a problem with the Sony CCD chip being used. Call JVC and arrange to send the camera to them. Hope this helps you! Joe Weibel Custom Electronics (customelectronics.org)

Canon Powershot S1 IS - Both in LCD and View finder - only blank is coming

Sorry this aint a solution. I too have the same problem as Mr.Gandhi is facing. I too bought this camera approximately 2 years ago.Since last cupla weeks, im facing this problem on a random note...I cud take a few snaps in between and upload without any problem but again the camera could not capture new images even with a set of 4 new batteries. Whenever i switch the mode to take snaps from preview mode (which is still working fine), the LCD or the view finder becomes dark with some blue colored horizontal lines appearing as if its because of some kinda interference!
