I ran over rock and tore my oil pan. oil leaked engine hot. i shut off. i have removed and repaired pan, disconnected rods, freed up, everything turns pistons up and down. put everything back together and turn on key and it wont craank. sounds like starter is stuck. there is a wire from coild to distributer and one going somewhere else but it isnt connected. can you help?

Similar to a vehicle starter, there has to be two positive wires attached to the positive terminal on the starter, and then there has to be a ground wire. A starter will not operate if there is no ground wire connected.

I have to lower the front crossmember to remove the oil pan. Is there any precautions I should know about? It is on 2004 jeep liberty 4x4

no engine stated, they even have diesel. or 3.7L GAS.

1. Disconnect and isolate negative battery cable.
2. Install engine support fixture.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Remove front wheel assemblies.
5. Remove skid plate (if equipped). (Refer to 13 -

PLATE - REMOVAL)
6. Drain engine oil.
7. Mark adjustment cam position of front lower control
arm bolts.
8. Remove front lower control arm bolts. (Refer to 2 -

9. Disconnect LH tie rod. (Refer to 19 - STEERING/

18. With RH axle still in place, remove front differential.
19. Remove transmission oil cooler line bracket.
20. Remove engine to transmission stiffening bracket.
21. Position Special Tool 8534 on fender lip and align the slots in the brackets with the fender mounting holes.
22. Secure brackets to the fender using four M6 X 1.0 X 25 MM flanged cap screws.
23. Tighten the thumbscrews to secure the sleeves to the support tube.
24. Secure the support tube in an upright position.
25. Assemble the flat washer, thrust bearing, hook and T handle.
26. Using the M10 X 1.75 mm flanged nut supplied with the support fixture, secure the chain to the front engine
lifting stud.
27. Loosen engine mounts.
28. Remove oil pan bolts.
29. Seperate oil pan (1) from engine.
30. Move oil pan to one side, remove oils sump bolt and windage tray bolts,
NOTE: Do not pry on oil pan or oil pan gasket. Gasket is integral to engine windage tray and does not come
out with oil pan.

  4. Clean the oil pan and all gasket mating surfaces.

To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pan gasket to the block after applying engine RTV at the oil pump parting line Oil pan. Torque the bolts to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm). Structural collar Negative battery cable
  2. Fill the crankcase to the correct level.
  3. Start the engine, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

  2. Apply RTV gasket material to the oil pan.
  3. Install or connect the following:

    Oil pan. Tighten the bolts in sequence to 50 inch lbs. (6 Nm). Torque converter dust shield Bending braces Front motor mount bracket Starter motor Negative battery cable
  4. Fill the crankcase to the correct level.
  5. Start the engine, check for leaks and repair if necessary.

3.3L & 3.8L Engines

Well i have been told i am leaking oil from the front seal and oil pan. second off i was even told that my car sounds like the rod about to go through the crank shaft. it only taps when i run to much .

If the car is run or has been ran to many times or to long with low oil, then the rod problem could very well be true. But rods usually knock at the first start of the engine and then goes away. ( oil pressure builds up). If yours makes the noise after the engine is hot and been running for sometime, I would suspect the lifters tapping. This could be from low oil, from the oil not being changed (low viscosity), Or the engine is just to hot. You will need to listen to the noise the next time it comes up and determine where it is coming from. Top or Bottom. I would try to fix the oil leaks. I would start with the front seal, to see if it is just throwing oil around the oil pan.

you can disconnect the Battery and when the battery is disconnected ..now turn on your head lites ... Wait a min or two then shut off head lites re connect battery ... try starting car this will reset you computer in car ...

Oil Pan - Removal & Installation

2.4L Engine
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Negative battery cable Structural collar A/C compressor bracket to oil pan bolt Oil pan
  4. Clean the oil pan and all gasket mating surfaces.
To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:

I hit a big rock under my car and now it is leaking fluid up front how much would it cost me to fix the hole that the rock has caused

If the oil pan has the hole in it a new oil pan with gasket will cost you around $120. http://www.racepages.com/products/?Ntt=Ford+Taurus+Oil+Pan&N=4294963856 However you can probably just remove the old pan and have it repaired. Any welding shop can repair a hole in your pan and may be able to repair it on the engine without removing it if the hole is tiny. You will still need to buy a new gasket if you have to remove the pan, so if you can get it repaired for less than $90 you will be money ahead. You may also be able to find a used oil pan at your local auto salvage yard.

YOU NEED A REPAIR MANUAL BECAUSE YOU HAVE A FEW THINGS YOU HAVE TO DO TO REMOVE OIL PAN.FIRST OF ALL YOU HAVE LOWER FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER WITH FLOOR JACK IF YOU HAVE 4WD VECHICLE..DISCONNECT THE FRONT EXHAUST Y PIPE FROM THE ENGINE AND THE EXHAUST SYSTEM.YOU HAVE TO REMOVE OIL PAN SKID PLATE.AND THE LOWER CONTROL ARM CROSS MEMBER FROM BELOW THE OIL PAN.

I need to replace the oil pan gasket on a 03 dodge ran 1500 2x4 with the 4.7 do I just unscrew it and take the gasket out put the new one in and screw it back together or is there more

Oil Pan - Removal & Installation3.7L, 4.7L And 5.7L Engines
  1. Before servicing the vehicle, refer to the Precautions Section.
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Attach an engine crane.
  4. Loosen, but don-t remove, the left and right mount through-bolts.
  5. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Negative battery cable Structural cover Front crossmember
  6. Raise the engine just enough for clearance.
  7. Remove or disconnect the following:
    NOTE Don-t pry on the pan. The gasket is integral with the windage tray, and doesn-t come out with the pan.
    NOTE The double ended studs must be installed in their original locations.
    Pan bolts and studs Pan
To install:
  1. Install or connect the following:
    Oil pan gasket Oil pan. Tighten the bolts, in sequence, to 105 inch lbs. (12 Nm). Front crossmember Structural cover Negative battery cable
  2. Fill the crankcase to the proper level with engine oil.
  3. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Have a 1999 eclipse 2.0 L...Need to replace oil pan. Do I have to remove any other parts to get the pan off

2.0L Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Drain the engine oil.
  3. Remove or disconnect the following:
    Engine undercover Front exhaust pipe Lower oil pan bolts and lower pan Cover Upper oil pan bolt and upper pan Baffle plate

To install:
  1. Clean all gasket surfaces of the cylinder block and the upper and lower oil pan.
  2. Install or connect the following:
    Baffle plate
  3. Apply a 0.16 in. (4mm) bead of sealant to the gasket surfaces of the upper oil pan.
    Upper oil pan onto the cylinder block within 15 minutes after applying sealant. Tighten the bolts as shown in the accompanying figure.

  4. Apply 0.16 in. (4mm) bead of sealant to the gasket surfaces of the lower oil pan.
    Lower oil pan and tighten the bolts, in the sequence shown, to 88-106 inch lbs. (10-12 Nm)

  5. Lower the vehicle and fill the crankcase to the proper level with clean engine oil.
  6. Connect the negative battery cable. Start the engine and check for leaks.
Non-Turbo Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and safely support the vehicle.
  3. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container.
  4. Once the oil has completely drained, install the plug and tighten to 25 ft. lbs. (34 Nm).
  5. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
  6. Remove the engine oil dipstick and tube assembly.
  7. Remove the front plate.
  8. Unfasten the oil pan mounting bolts, then remove the oil pan and gasket.

To install:
  1. Apply sealant at the point where the engine block meets the oil pump.
  2. Use a new gasket and install the oil pan. Tighten the mounting bolts to 8.9 ft. lbs. (12 Nm).
  3. Install the front plate.
  4. Install the front exhaust pipe.
  5. Install the dipstick and tube assembly.
  6. Safely lower the vehicle to the floor.
  7. Refill the crankcase with oil to the proper level.
  8. nnect the negative battery cable.
  9. Start the engine and check for leaks.

Turbo Engine
  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
  2. Safely raise and support the vehicle.
  3. Remove the front exhaust pipe.
  4. Remove the exhaust pipe and muffler assembly.
  5. Drain the engine oil into a suitable container. Once the oil has drained completely, tighten the plug to 29 ft. lbs. (39 Nm).
  6. Remove the dipstick and tube.
  7. For AWD vehicles, remove the transfer case assembly as follows:
    1. With the propeller shaft still installed, remove the transfer mounting bolt.
    2. Insert a suitable prytool in between the transfer case and transaxle, then remove the transfer case from the center shaft.
    3. Remove the transfer case from the center shaft. Do NOT tilt the transfer assembly to the rear or oil will leak out.
    4. After removing the transfer assembly, insert tool MB991193 or equivalent, to prevent the oil from leaking out. Use a piece of wire to suspend the transfer case from the body.

  8. Remove the bell housing cover.
  9. Disconnect the oil return pipe from the oil pan.
  10. Remove the oil pan mounting bolts. Tap the oil pan seal breaker MB998727 or equivalent between the oil pan and the engine block to break the seal and remove the oil pan.

To install:
  1. Clean the sealing surface on the oil pan and engine block. Apply a continuous bead of sealant MD970389 or equivalent to the oil pan.
  2. Clean the oil pan mounting bolt holes in the oil seal case.
  3. Install the oil pan to the engine block. Tighten the mounting bolts to 5.1 ft. lbs. (6.9 Nm).
  4. Use a new gasket and connect the oil return pipe to the oil pan.
  5. Install the bell housing cover.
  6. If equipped with AWD, install the transfer case assembly.
  7. Install the dipstick and tube assembly.
  8. Install the front exhaust pipe.
  9. Install the exhaust pipe and muffler.
  10. Install a new oil filter.
  11. Safely lower the vehicle to the floor and add five quarts of oil to the crankcase.
  12. Connect the negative battery cable.
  13. Start the engine and check for leaks.

1999 Ford Explorer Oil Leak

You most likely hit a curb, the pan is cast aluminum and will break like glass if you hit a curb, the pan can be changed without removing the engine, it is very time consuming, but it can be done.
