Tv comes on; but after some time it switches off by itself and comes on again and so on at intervals from 10-20 seconds

Main System Board is faulty.

i encounter this and found out that the signal from pc is the source of the problem and not the monitor itself mine is failing video graphics card

Problem is in standby power supply or microprocessor area---not the do it yourself repair and likely not economical to repair due to age and brand of set.

the tv has a bad thermal fuse and with sony is usually a good idea to replace it when replacing the lamp

Hopefully it is only a board component that needs replacing and your dry joints that need re-doing. I would advise that you take it to a television repair shop as this type of repair can be very complex (replacing resistors and capacitors just to name a few).

The vertical output IC has failed/Power to the vertical IC is out/ or there is bad solder on the pins of the vertical output IC.

alright guys...blew a bulb....fixed that. still didint work...found out it was ballast...replaced that. tv worked for a month..all the sudden hdmi input didint work id plug in my playstation and screen would turn green and say "hdmi color has been corrupted" im thinking wtf? so a week later it works fine then just turns off in middle of watching espn... comes back on an hour later...only to turn off again...it just turns black for ten seconds then just turns off and the red and green lights blink at intervals of one second....replaced a bulb..not that, same problems.......when the tv comes on for the ten minutes before it quits working the pic and sound are great i just dnt get it...is it shorting out? color wheel bad? a fan?

mine does also does yours click at random times and the screen goes out in small places for a split second?

is this electricity pocket plugged up to a timer ? or take the tv back to the shop... lost the receit just look for the same tv on computer

need model number fo say anything about it
