Flashing red light. Console fails to turn on. When running your finger across the on/off light it turns red initially before turning returning red again and then after another attempt it turns green before flashing yellow/white before returning to a flashing red.

You don't need to run your finger across it, with the red light illuminated, press and hold the power button for 3 seconds you should hear a beep then a blue/green light should illuminated. If you see no light ensue the MAIN power switch on the back is switched on.
If you have the 3 rings of Death (3 Flashing Red Lights) on your xbox 360 console, all you need to do is to contact Xbox Support and report this issue with them. The Console has a 3 year warranty for the 3 flashing red lights. Just make sure you did the following first:
1. Power Cycle your Console (Turn it off, unplug the power adapter from the wall outlet, wait for 30 seconds, turn it back on)**This is the best solution and it usually works!!
2. If still persist, Turn it off, remove any accessories connected to it (Hard Drive, Controllers, etc.) turn it back on without those accessories. **These accessories sometimes causes the problem.
3. If removing these accessories removed the 3 flashing lights, attach the accessories one at a time, every time turning it off and attaching one and turning it back on checking each time if the red lights (any lights) appeared. It will tell you what is causing the error.
4. If all else fails, again CONTACT XBOX TECH SUPPORT on their Toll free number. Make sure that you tell the tech that you have done those things above so they can create a report for the issue. They love the 3 flashing red lights issue. I should know, I am formerly one of them. :)

Hi,Turn on unit until the red light flashes and the error code(E 73) shows up on the screen. Next insert toothpicks in the back of the console(while unit is running) into the cooling fans, this is to suppose to overheat the console and start two red lights flashing. Turn off console when this happens(unplug all cords from console) and turn the system back on. This solution will fix your problem for sure.Thank you!
Four lights around the power button flash red on your Xbox 360 console. Four flashing lights indicates that the console does not detect an audio/video (AV) cable. Note Four flashing red lights will not appear on consoles that have both an AV port and an HDMI port. Solution http://support.microsoft.com/kb/906652
This sounds like a serious problem and I'm very sorry you've come across it. I have an Xbox 360 which is known for red lights. lol. The absolute best way to handle this would be to call Sony PlayStation Customer Support, instead of looking up answers on the computer and trying to take it in your own hands. If you still have a warranty you can send for a PS3 coffen and have it sent in for free repair.
usually the flashin 4 red lights is an indiction that your AV cables are not hooked up. Sounds like you have a hardware issue that needs to be looked at. You can always pull it apart and do the heat gun trick on the motherboard... but if your not comfortable doing that i would send it in or find someone who can fix it. Chances are, a solder joint failed with your A/V port.
Try using different AV cables if it works you need new cables. Chances are you will still have RROD after.
Sections 1, 3, and 4 are flashing red

Check the secondary Error Code per the instructions in the section
below
THINGS TO TRY
Try restarting the console.
If restarting the console does not resolve the behavior,
follow these steps:
Turn the console off.
Unplug all the power and AV cables from the console.
Unplug the power cord from the wall socket.
Firmly reconnect all the cables.
Turn on the console.
If these steps do not resolve the behavior, turn the console
off, remove the hard drive, and then turn on the console. If the 3x Red
LED error light is no longer displayed, turn the console off, re-attach
the hard drive, and then turn on the console.
Also examine the lights on the power supply. When you turn
on the console, the power supply light should illuminate green even if
the three lights on the RoL flash red.
