SOURCE: Canon pro9000 Carriage lift mechanism error [5110]
hi i am a certified Canon repair tech for this printer. this machine has a service bulliten for this problem and i have preformed the repair of this problem. the carridge lift cams are rotating faster then they should due to the wrong grease being applied to the part at the factory. this will require a Canon service center to repair because they is a special grease that needs to be used to slow down the cams. the best way is to contact Canon at 1-800-OK-CANON to locate a service center near you and they will repair the machine under the warrenty. hope this helps.
SOURCE: Message on printer screen is simply Error Code 5110
I found this on another site. It is for error code 5100 but since
nobody seems to find the exact answer for 5110, maybe you should give
it a try. If this helps, email a "thank you note" to the person who wrote this, his email address is at the end of this message.
As a technician, I have worked on tons of printers. This particular
error had stumped me for a while, but I finally found the cause. As
others had pointed out before, it can have a lot to do with some
obstruction in the print path, the gears, or ink on the clear plastic
encoder strip. You're on the right track - I found the the purge cap
(the white sliding mechanism that the print head parks to when it's not
in use) was not lubricated well enough from factory. If you lubricate
the sliders with some white grease (don't get it on the small wipers or
the black caps) the mechanism can now slide more freely, and the unit
can park the head properly without giving you the dreaded head homing
error 5100. Keep in mind that this repair
will probably require you to remove the right panel off of the printer
to gain access to the purge mechanism. There are two screws behind the
printer, and two in front for each corrosponding side panel (the front
screws are behind the grey front panel of the printer - open the top
cover to see the clips which hold the front cover on) Hope this helps
some of you out.

5110 is Carriage lift mechanism error.First, make sure there is no paper jam anywhere in the machine.. look inside, rear, where the paper tray (output) is, etc to see if you find any shreds or torn paper that may have gotten stuck and you didn't see.Look carefully in the zone of Purge unit, using flashlight in the right side on printer. If this not help your printer need service.

The error seems to indicate a failed sheet feed, check the paper path to see for any stuck bits of paper, however I have heard that this can also be caused by a flaky sensor in the paper path.....
apparently the best way to deal with this is to turn it upside down and give it a shake.
hope this helps
