There is a repair kit called the AV48wp 30 convergence repair kit from www.tvrepairworld.com which has step by step instructions that should solve that issue.

Convergance problem on lower half of screen.smeared red and orange double vision, but only on bottom ofscreen.top appears out of focus, but not double visioned.

Howdy,

The TV has a convergence problem; the IC’s for that circuit will need to be replaced. The part(below) Number is from Toshiba, they provide good advice on replacement parts. Make sure what type of IC's your TV uses first. The cost for this repair runs around $450.00 or more.

Replace the defective Convergence Output IC Part Number
23905094 (STK392-110) using the revised “T” version IC Part Number
23135090 (STK392-110T). When Convergence Output failure is
detected, it’s recommended that both IC’s be changed to the “T” type IC
version. Inspect the Convergence Output IC’s for the “T” type version as
shown in Figure 2. Replace the Convergence Output IC’s using the “T”
type version Part Number 23135090 (STK392-110T).

I hope this information allows you to resolve this issue.

Double- Vision

More than likely your akai has defective stk392-040 Convergence chips . it also may have open resistors generally 3.9 ohm flame proff. this board is attached to the top left looking from the back of the set it is screwed on by 1 screw black in the center . after installation this will probably half to be converged dinamically. which means you will half to get to the grid this is done by using the remote press mute 183 quicly to enter numbers on thew remote 2 to adjust red 4 to adjust blue horizonta 6 to adjustred vertical and 8 to adjust red vertical using center button to go up and down

Blurred/double vision Samsung HDTV 1080i projection

Your convergence ICs are bad and maybe the two resistors right next to them. This is an easy and inexpensive repair if you can solder. A repair shop will run about 400.00 The parts are readily available for about 10.00 each you will need two ICs STKXXX-XXX
Look inside your set for a large aluminum heat sink that's where hey are located they will have an STK number like above stamped on them. Those are the part numbers. Let me know what type of TV and model number you have and I can help you locate the proper parts.

53UDX10B 53 in. Rear Projection "3D vision"

the convergence IC`s and associated resistors have to be replaced, do not repeatedly push magic focus or the alignment after the parts change out will take longer which of course means higher repair bill, good luck

Auto Convergence not working

I'm assuming you were having picture quality problems prior to pressing the auto convergence button. If not then there could be a problem in that circuit. More likely I believe is a problem on the convergence board assembly or in the pincushion circuits. Also, check your owners manual to see if there is a manual convergence adjustment you can do.
