The above says it all, any ideas?
I had the same problem with mine. Will it play CDs? If so, I may have the solution. If it will play CDs it isn't a lense problem. If you take the cover off you will see ribbon cables on the DVD end of the machine. Carefully disconnect them and use a pencil eraser to clean the ends of the ribbons where the contacts are. Then reconnect them. This solved the problem on my machine. Good luck!
Try some Lubricant on the motor It worked for me when I had the exact same problem. Just take off the cover and the tray face plate and usually the interface plate ,being very careful not to pull on any strands in there. You can then insert a dvd and see if t it will start to spin when you close the tray. If not put a drop of some thin lubricant on the (Spinner?)and let it settle for a bit and spin the mecahanism manually for a while. If you open and shut the tary and start to manually turn it you should feel that it wantrs to turn by itself. What finally worked for me was to put in a less usefull dvd (due to the oil) and manually spin it after the laser engaged. After a few drops and repeating this procedure it is now working like a charm . I'm Glad I didn't listen to the nobs a future shop and wait for some Firm ware that obviously wasn't the problem.
Just like reccon10 said:
Put a disc in, turn it off, and unplug it. Open the casing (carefully) and then plug it in and turn it on (WITH THE DISC IN!). If the laser is moving around on its track but the disc doesn't spin, then just do as reccon10 said and apply some WD40 or silicone spray (any light lubricant meant for smaller things) to the shaft of the disc-spinning motor while manually turning it to work it in nice and deep. The "quick spray, turn a few times, quick spray, turn a few times" method had mine up and running from a completely locked state.
If the disc is spinning AND the laser is moving around but won't read, then it's likely just a dirty lens. Apply a LITTLE rubbing alcohol with a Q-tip, using the dry end to soak up any excess. Put it back together and give it a try. If that doesn't solve it, then the laser itself might be dead. A quick look at the wires might show that they're not connected or melted or whatever. If not, then you'll likely need a whole new module, which usually means buy a new DVD player as it's almost never worth replacing a laser (unless it's a PS3 or something, where the device is worth less than the whole console).
You need to cahnge your parental control settings. It will say, "reading" then it will say, "No Play". Onceyou cahnge the settings of the parental control (TVG) to 8 it will allow the dvd to play.
This problem of failing to read discs is down o the laser itself if you have cleaned the lens, the laser itself is costly around £50 trade. As an engineer its getting a bit annoying when you can buy a cheap player complete for £15 and a laser on its own costs you more, whats happening to our trade? I hate scrapping repairable units and filling up landfill sites in the process!
Cleaning had no effect on mine either. It just crapped out. I did a google search and come to find out the company has lawsuits out the butt and has equipment seized by the FBI. They have so many equipment malfunctions that they removed their customer service number. Mine just keeps saying "NO DISC" and I have used these recording discs for many other movies and such. It will still play DVD's but I am sure it will stop doing that pretty soon also.
Replace lens
Sounds like the DVD loader has failed. If it is out of warranty, Sanyo gets about $100 to replace it. I had the same problem with my DRW-500. I replaced my loader with a Plextor PX-716A to fix the problem. Sanyo will not sell the replacement loader to consumers. So, if you are not comfortable doing modifications, send it to Sanyo for repairs. They will provide a 90 day warrenty.
Get a dvd burner from your computer shop ( the ones they use in computers)or if you have one in a computer. make sure the burner works properly in the computer before installing it in the dvr. Mike
Keep trying. I have one that does that all the time after it is not used for a while, I think the spin motor is not coming up to speed. After 6 or 7 tries (open/close sequences) it will finally engage correctly and all works from there.
That's similar to what I saw, you may have to reset the filters. Try this:
In Device Manager, delete both drives and close it.
Now delete the Upper and Lower Filters to force XP to redetect the drives on reboot:
a. Click on Start --> Run --> and type in 'regedit' followed by the enter key
b. Expand the "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE" key (looks like a folder) by double clicking it (or
clicking the "+" next to it.)
c. Expand the "SYSTEM" Key
d. Expand the "CurrentControlSet" Key
e. Expand the "Control" Key
f. Expand the "Class" Key
g. Look for a key containing the following string of letter and numbers:
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
h. Highlight this key
i. On the right hand side you are looking for "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" under the "Name" column, once you find these delete them by right clicking on them and choosing "delete"
j. Exit the registry
Reboot.
I don't remember why I also saved this info, but it's also in my notes and it may also help:
You should see a LowerFilters and a LowerFilters.bak. If you don't see these then this fix will probably not work for you.
You need to rename the LowerFiters.bak and UpperFilters.bak to LowerFilters and UpperFilters respectively.
What I did was rename LowerFilters to LowerFilters.now and the LowerFilters.bak to LowerFilters. The data value of the renamed LowerFilters should be PxHelp20 Pfc.
You should do the same thing for the UpperFilters. The data value of the renamed UpperFilters should be GEARaspiWDM.
Remember, I said after the installation and before the reboot my CD writer was detected. After the reboot it wasn't. I believe the during processing while rebooting the program saved the old value as the .Bak files and put in the new value. The new value it put in is what broke the detection.
What this does it put it as it was before the program installation changed it.
By just renaming the LowerFilters and UpperFilters you can easily reverse it if there's a problem.
The only thing you can do by yourself is try to clean the lense. More often then not this actually fixes the problem. Take the cover off to expose the lense and clean any accumulated dust from the laser lense, while you're at it you can clean the rest of it if its dusty. If you open it up and there's no dust on the lense, then it could be many things, and if you don't recognize any burnt parts, or severed ribbons, or you wouldn't know what to do if you did, then you should take it to be fixed. Use the warranty if you still got it.

Thank You for all your help. Kathy E.
Let it run in receiver mode and use for watching tv. After approx 20 minutes it should take any DVD. Maybe it doesn't like the very first attempt, if so, switch off & on or reload DVD. After that it playes them all back. I felt like the machine needs to settle and warm up before it is ready to read DVD.
When i put any dvd in it will say loading for a long time then say disk error. what do i do now.
I actually tried this, cleaning had no effect: either through the manual method posted here or through the use of "dvd cleaning disks." To get mine to work, this is what I did: 1)power-off power-on 2)put in a regular non-recordable dvd 3)Wait for it to recognize that dvd. Sometimes you need to try this a couple of times as you pray to the God of dvd burners to let your dvd burner work; all while the first 5 minutes of the season premiere of your favorite show goes by unrecorded. 4) Once this dvd is recognized, eject it, and put in your recordable DVD. If it recognizes it, don't touch anything, don't power-off the machine, start recording immediately. This method worked 2 days in a row for me. Unfortunately the method seems to work less and less reliably each time I employ it, and is unacceptable for scheduled recordings. It is a shame, because it has been a reliable little machine ? even though it has many quirks including mandatory firmware upgrades. I actually tried to replace it with a Phillips: Phillips was DOA ? and seems to be made with the same cheap parts that the Cyberhome was made of. Makes me appreciate the Cyberhome even more. Note: I think the Cyberhome co is up for sale or something, judging from their website...
I have been having the same type of problem with this and find that the battery does not seem to fit snug. If I plug in the AC power cord, then the problem goes away and the DVD plays fine.
Sometimes this occurs when you insert a copied disc it does'nt recognise
The warranty only covers 3 months. After that, they charges you about $100 plus shipping and handling to just look at the unit..then if it needed any parts, they are all extra costs. If you add up all those charges, might as wel get a new unit for a few hundreds more. That's why I'm looking online for help but this seems to be no help.
What disc are you using there is a list of certain disc it will play
Ribon cable most likes works itself loose at the back end of tray, reseat if you can common problem on this player if your savvy enough reseat and use hot glue gun to make sure it sticks.
You can replace the DVD drive with a new one. Liteon makes the original one. I replaced mine when it did the same thing. I used a Liteon 16X drive (overkill) to do so. It worked fine. Just do not update the firmware later for the drive. The original drive used a rubber belt for a drive and it stretches very quickly. You can also replace the belt on the drive but that is chancy. I would go for the drive replacement.
Have the same problem on two of my dvd players AKIRA and DAEWOO. cleaning the lens on one(AKIRA) helped but on the second one it dididn't. i think the problem was that the motor on the daewoo was not turning upon loading.

Hey WeiesBlitz,
There may be a number of reasons why you may be encountering this problem, but there are a couple of quick solutions that may always try before seeking repairs on the player.
First, I would suggest making sure that the DVD's being used have been cleaned and are dust-free. Imperfections or impurities of any kind on the surface of a CD or DVD may prevent the laser in your player from being able to read, or even recognize the media inserted. You should be able to clean the DVD by using a soft and dry, lint-free (typically microfiber) cloth. Remember to try using gentle, outward strokes that run from the inner ring of the disc directly to the outer edge.
Second, you can always try cleaning the lens of the player itself using a commercial cleaning kit. Many retailers (including your local Best Buy™ store) may sell kits that clean lenses when inserted into your player like a normal DVD. Please keep in mind that not all DVD players are designed to function with these cleaning kits, and that you should always refer to your owner's manual for any possible warnings against the use of such products.
Should these suggestions fail resolve the problem, you may wish to try using other DVD's from your film library in the player. If other discs function normally, the non-functioning disc may be damaged. If using other discs results in the same error message, the player may be in need of physical repairs.
Hope this helps you out.
Sincerely,
Aaron

It's an anticopy feature. JVC extensively uses sony electronics. And Sony is the anti copy king of retardedness. I've permanently stopped purchasing sony products for this reason. From dvd players, to video game consoles, and their records and movies (columbia). I've been doing this for 10 years and haven't really missed anything :/
