I need my mic for communicating in skype but somehow Skype tells me not being able to recognize my voice. I checked everything (Control Panel / sounds and audio devices / voice & audio) but can't find the problem. It shows me Default device "C-Media CM6501 Like Sound Devic" but when i press on test hardware, no voice is recognized. So what's the problem? Do i need a new sound card or does logitec usb desktop mic fix the problem?
for any help, thanks in advance!
cheers

Your logitech will not fix your C-Media CM6501driver.
det60,
Does your sound function? Can you hear sound through speakers or headset?
You did the right thing by testing the mic in control panel, audio device. Lets look at one other place.
Open control panel than open system. Click the hardware tab & than click device manager button. Scroll down to Sound, video and game controller. Click the + sign. Do you see a yellow ! point? If you do see the yellow ! point than you need to reinstall your sound driver software. Or better yet download the latest audio driver for your board from Asus web site listed at the link posted here: http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?modelname=M2N-E%20SLI&SLanguage=en-us
CMedia beta driver. Version: V5.12.8.1802
If there was no yellow ! point than your audio chip is defective.
Your audio & mic are intergrated into the board. The audio chip controlls both audio & mic. This is a very common break down for Asus boards, (made in China).
Your board was made in 2006 & it's warranted for three years.
You have two choices.
1. You can buy a PCI sound card & install that into your system.
You'll have to turn off the intergrated audio in the bios as well.
2. You will have to call Asus & talk with the tech dept.
812-282-2787 IL EST
A tech will ask you for the serial no# located on a white sticker on your pink printer port Lpt-1. The tech will have you re-run the test you preformed (setting up the mic). Than they will issue you a case no#.
Than you'll have to call CA, RMA dept. 510-739-3777
You give the RMA dept your case no#. They email you instructions. You pay to ship your board to Asus tech IL.
Than around 10 working days they'll ship (free) it back to you (replaced with another board), but working.
Same model no#, different serial no#.
(I so hate giving out bad news!)
The choice is your's.
Good luck & best wishes
Don't forget to vote please..
To get in to the bios. As soon as you turn on the PC start pressing the Delete key on the key board every 2 seconds.
The Bios menus will load. Instructions on how to move around in the bios are loacated at the bottom of the screen. (The mouse does not function while in the bios).
It will help if you have your manual while in the bios. If you missplaced your manual you can download it from Asus, just click the link below.
http://support.asus.com/download/downloa...
Go to pg. 4.4 in your manual. Look for onboard Audio & change to disable.
det60, I know this was helpful & you did vote thank you but I was thinking this is more of a fixya. I do this to help people like you. I do not get paid nore would I want to get paid. I just love helping people.
Votes are important to me, not to FixYa.
Listed below is another link for PCI sound / mic cards. These are US prices but you can get an idea of price to sound card specs. From 4.1 to 7.1 sound cards.

Best wished det60.
Oryan, Have you tried to test your mic through windows? Open control panel, open Sound and audio devices, click the voice tab than click Test Hardware. Follow the instruction on the page. If you mic fails this setup than odds are your mic is also defective. You can follow the instructions I listed above for det60.
Good luck & best wishes

Usually answered in minutes!
The sound is function! And the yellow ! is not there, so I guess this is an audio chip problem. I bought this board here in India so it must be from China. I think i will go for the PCI sound card solution as i hate to send the motherboard to the above mentioned address. It will definitely take more than 10 working days!
Just one more question:
How to turn off the integrated audio in the BIOS?
Thanks a lot,
det60
My mic just suddenly stopped working, and basiscally does what that person said, tried reinstalling drivers but didn't help.
