Thumping Noise Coming From Drum Maytag MDE9700AYW There are two self adhesive bands of tape that adhere to the outside of the drum, one forward and one rearward of the belt. The front band on my dryer delaminated and turned into a gooey, sticky substance that dripped and ran down the outside of the drum causing high spots that were thumping and dragging on the inside of the cabinet. Not sure of the purpose for this ?sealing tape? unless it acts as a fuse that purposely causes a thumping/dragging problem that alerts one of an internal temperature problem...it looks unnecessary to me...still searching for answers. Perhaps it does seal openings underneath the tape ? don't know I just now took it apart. Thumper Gooball

I also discovered this problem with my Maytag Neptune dryer. The 2 self-adhesive bands (sound deadening?) on the outside of the drum came de-laminated in places, and some of the tar-like goo underneath the top laminate balled-up, and rubbed on the dryer housing, and eventually caught on the sheet-metal bracket housing a circuit board on the left side of the dryer. My solution: After scraping as much of the "tar-goo" from the sides of the dryer, and scraping off the "high-points" where the goo balled up. I covered both bands with a high-temp aluminum tape (like you use for HVAC flues, etc.). So far, so good.

The felt liner in the dryer came off and now it is making a thumping noise and we noticed some small oil spots on the cloths

I have a Maytag dryer, MDE9700AYW, and the felt liner at the front of the inside of the drum has torn away, at least most of it has. It take approximate 2 hours to dry a load of clothing. I cannot find the part number or the name of the part. I spoke with an appliance repair shop and they are unfamiliar with the felt liner. Can someone assist with obtaining a name, part #, and resolution?

Thanks,

Anthony

What is a glider? My dryer has started making some loud noises and the cloth like material that goes around it in the inside has ripped into shreds. Is this what is causing the loud noises? How and where...

The gliders are a piece of hard plastic that set on the frame, the peice that holds the drum, their is 4 of them and they are on top of the frame, the felt liner is what supports the bottom of the drum on the fram.

Dryer thumps on every rotation of the drum

Inspect the weld seam in the drum. Mine split in the front leaving a small hole. The thumping is the drum wheels running over the broken seam.

Maytag dryer make very loud 'tumbling', thumping noise but the drum isn't turning. We just replaced the belt and all the wheels and pully's 'appear' to be in good shape. Help.

If you just replaced all that then maybe you dont have the drum put back in there correctly. alternately sometimes the fins on the inside of the drum are not tight and shift and make noise as the drum turns. You tighten those on the outside of the drum. Make sure you put the belt on right. The blower wheel may have worked itself loose. Make sure the belt is on right and the drum was not put back in backwards. Check that, if the other doesnt work. Last but not least I have seen on some Maytag brands the seam on the drum was not welded right and it popped opened/no longer seamed togerther...check that as well.
