The drum cartridge catches waste toner, so the problem isn't that it's empty -- the problem is that it's full.

You can buy a replacement here:

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/PopupProductDetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=bsdv&sku=310-5732

This part costs $169, and should be good for over 10,000 pages of normal printing.

Manufacturer Part# : M5065
Dell Part# : 310-5732

Itcomes with very detailed instructions on how to remove the oldcartridge and install the new one. Very easy, but there's no way aroundthe price tag.

If these appear it only means that you have an empty drum or a broken one, if the message is replace empty drum then you have to replace it with a full one

Xerox 4250 photoreceptor error

I have a Xerox 4250. After the ink cartridge ran out I replaced it with a new one and got the "replace photoreceptor cartridge" message. Reinserted the cartridge and it stayed. Called Xerox and they couldn't explain. I turned the machine off and on and the message changed to "replace photoreceptor cartridge" but an additional message of replace Smart Drum came up. I replaced the Smart Drum and it is working fine now. Note: I really don't think it was time to replace the Smart Drum. But the nearest authorized service provider was 3.5 hours away and this had to be cheaper than a service call from that distance.

Is the "change drum soon" message instructing to

This indicator is for the drum unit, not the toner cartridge. The drum unit is the assermbly that the toner cartridge is inserted into when being replaced. The drum unit is replaced about every 18,000 pages so after about 5 to 10 toners have been replaced.
Here is a picture of the drum unit.

How do I take off the message drum near end when its has been replace

Open the toner cartridge door. Press clear on the console. A message shold display saying "replace drum? press 1 or 2" press the corresponding number to reset the drum counter. This is a very important step when replacing the drum as it actually changes the voltage setting for the dc power regulator. If not performed, and a partially used toner cartridge is in, waste toner can be pulled out of the cartridge and can contaminate the drum unit.

Error Message Drum Life Over, Replace Drum

The "drum" referred to is the imaging drum which is replaced separately from the toner cartridge. The drum life is rated for a certain number of copies, and the printer is telling you it's time. Replacement drums are available at big-box office places and from many online sources. Just do a Google search for "kx-fl511 drum". The new drum just slides in much like the toner cartridge, so replacing it isn't difficult.

Drum full of waste toner

I just replaced the black ink cartridge and now getting the message that drum waste is full replace. What does this mean?

Message received drum life end soon

The message means the imaging drum is going to need replacement soon. The imaging drum and toner cartridge are the two main parts that need replacement sometimes. In some printers the drum and toner cartridge are replaced in the same unit, but the Brother has separate parts. The drum is rated for a certain number of copies, so as it gets close you get the message. Replacement drums are available at big-box office places and online. An original Brother is in the $100-$150 range and generics around half that cost.
