Dvd player my acer 3690 labtop plays the dvd but no sound

What are you using? Are you on-line? Using a Media Player? The DVD/CD Rom? Are ALL your Acer and Windows Update Current, up-to-date?

Try an external DVD drive that you can connect to your USB port. The drive you have in the laptop either has a dirty laser lens, which you can carefully clean with a "Q" and alcohol, or the laser itself may be going out. The drive can be replaced. You mentioned you have a cd-rom. If you can play movies (DVD) it is more likely a DVD drive instead of a cd-rom. CD-ROMs can only read data or music.

Sounds like the optical lens may have failed on it.

If the device shows up in the system properties but does not play cd or dvd then this is normally the case and a simply case of replacing it will fix.

AVS DVD Player is a free universal player that I put on all Acer Ones that I sell. It is an excellent player, that can go full screen and handle every format. It will even play VOB files which are dvd files "ripped" from dvd discs. I have never had a failure with this program....

Select: Notebook>Aspire>3690

Download the audio driver, it's the first in the list, and reinstall.
If that doesn't work, then you have a hardware issue... Call for assistance

u should to clean the DVD-ROM & check if ur DVDs or CDS back is clear (there is no crashes on them)

You need a new DVD codec. If you have a copy of WinDVD, give it an install. Otherwise, try the free codec on www.divx.com.

What are you burning? To burn a playable DVD requires special software that transcodes the video and audio and puts it into a specific directory structure that's required by DVD players. There are DVD players that will play certain types of files automatically. Tells us more about what you're trying to burn and how you're doing it.
