You most likely have a virus and malware infestation. If you feel brave and want to try and remove them yourself then hit F8 several times at startup until the boot screen comes up, select boot into "safe mode with networking", download an arsenal of removers, and have at it.OR:The quickest and in my opinion BEST method would be to bring it to a computer shop the specializes in virus removal for a set price of $50 - $100. They will get rid of EVERYTHING bad and should have your computer back to you in a day or 2.

Put a Windows XP disk (has to be the full version not an upgrade) into the CD drive and the computer will ask to "press any key to boot from CD". Press a key. Follow the prompts, It is important to delete the partition when asked. Then recreate it. Format the drive with NTFS file system. The setup will go on to reinstall windows automatically.

Now, the only challenge is to reload any software drivers for components Windows does not find automatically. This is a little tricky. Do google search of Acer drivers or go to

Also, remember all your software programs need to be re-installed. For example, your Microsoft Office (word, excel, etc). Any games, any virus protection, Quickbooks, etc. The printer software also needs to be re-installed. Hopefully you still have the original disk or if its a Hewlett Packard go to their website.

Have you looked at this from ACER: I'm sure you already know it seems to be a common problem. Every post seems to point to Media type , can't use RW disk, +or-, seems kink of finicky which seems odd. Only use DVD+R or DVD-R.

On Windows or OSX (Mac), if you double-click on the font file it should launch a font-viewer program which will have an "Install Font" button.

The laptop should have come with CD/DVD burning software preloaded. Acer's specs page for your model says it comes with NTI Media Maker. The program will have help information available to guide you through, and you can find more help online. If you just want to write data files onto a DVD, the process typically is not much more than dragging files to a layout window and telling the program to burn the disc. This gives you a way to back up data, or to store movies in formats you can view on a computer (AVI, MPG, etc.).

On the other hand, if you're asking how to make a video DVD that will play in a regular DVD player like a commercial movie, maybe with features like menus or scene selection and such, the process for making that kind of DVD is more involved. You need some DVD authoring software. NTI may offer that capability, but I'll admit I have never looked.

In most cases, the software that comes preloaded on computers is a limited version of some commercial product. The computer manufacturers get paid to include the program, and the software company hopes you'll buy the full version when you discover the limitations. If you don't want to pay for software, there are free, more full-featured programs available for downloading.

For general CD and DVD burning, I use CDBurnerXP. To make video DVDs, I use a program called DVDStyler. Both are open-source, meaning they are 100% free to download and use, and they both offer a lot of features.

If you have a dvd burner, you need software to burn dvd's. VSO is good and simple software to use, i think they have a sample.

It looks like a ribbon cable from the display to the motherboard is damaged. It would not be worth it to pay someone to fix it. You might try a usb webcam. That would be a good workaround until you can upgrade to a better laptop.

I would suggest a new laptop. Windows Vista is no longer supported by Microsoft. A new router and laptop that both use the ac standard should help with your connection issues. A wifi extender can be used if the router's signal does not reach far enough.

I would say do your research and buy a new laptop. A low to midrange laptop would wipe the floor with the one you have now. I would suggest at least 8 gb of ram with an ssd.

I would try connecting your laptop to another monitor or tv. If you have no issues then you know the problem is your monitor. If the problem is the monitor, a new one can be found for around $100. If the video issue follows the laptop, you may have to upgrade laptops when you are able. Also, try another video cable to see if that helps.
